Picked up my Overland yesterday

So i went down to NC from NY to pick up the lightly used (6,000 miles) White Overland w/ advanced tech package that i got at an amazing price. Drove it the 12 hours back and this car is amazing. The nav is awesome, the instrument cluster is awesome, the Uconnect is awesome, the transmission is awesome. The advanced tech package, notably the blind side monitoring is a God's send! My only complaint is that while i find the v6 engine very good, it seems like it did seem to hesitate or lag a little (not sure if that the correct term) when lets say I'm doing 65 and try to floor it to 80-85 to pass someone. Gradually getting up to the 80-85 range is no problem, only when i try to floor it from 65 or so.

Also, i really like the indigo blue interior. I think it compliments the white very very very nicely, much better than black or light frost.

How i got here:

Since my last car was totaled in December(RIP Cadillac CTS), i knew i was getting a Grand Cherokee. Initially i was looking to get a 2012 Overland but after searching for a couple of months it seems like the price point for a low mileage 2012 Overland was not where i anticipated it would be. I was thinking that given the many improvements on the new 14 models, the 2012 models could be had at a bargain but that wasn't the case. I saw two white on Saddle Brown ones (love that interior) that both had been sitting on the dealer lot for over 3 months thinking i would be able to get a great deal but they wouldn't budge on their internet price (those cars are STILL there). I said screw that and started looking into the possibility of picking up 14' when i came across the ad for the 14' Overland i ended up buying, which was only 3k more than the best offers i received for the 2012. A price well worth it considering all the improvements on the 14, i'd be getting an almost FULL warranty (car was built 08/13) and the fact that i was going to spend an extra grand or so to fix the 12 how i like it (paint front grille, mirror caps and rear brow, remove chrome strip on doors, etc)

I really like the front end of the 14 vs 12, especially the lower fascia, the 12 looks like something is missing from the grill down. I do think the rear of the 12 looks better, chrome lift gate handle not included. The interior of 14 makes the 12 look downright archaic. I'm not sure how i feel about the color matched body parts on the 14 though, more specifically the rear bumper. Parking on NYC streets, it's only a matter of time before i get a few nicks here and there which wouldn't be the case with the black plastic on the prior models.

I had my last car for 8 years and plan to keep this one for a long time as well. What mods are you guys doing? First thing i'm going to do is get the chrome mirror caps painted white, can't stand them. Don't mind the chrome handles or the rest of the chrome stuff.

I'm not really much of a car guy, just appreciate nice things, but do hope to learn lots from everyone here!

Re: Picked up my Overland yesterday

It is very common to have lag in all JGC's with the Eco mode button engaged. I would suggest turning that button off and see what the results are...

I did have eco mode off as i had read about that on here before buying the car. Is there a way to correct this? It's not really a big deal but i'd prefer if it wasn't an issue.

Also, are there different various of the speedometer? I've seen pictures that some people have a regular 0-140 Speedometer while mine just shows the MPH dead center in large numbers.

A 5200 pound vehicle with the aerodynamics of a bookshelf at 65 mph takes some HP to make it jump. The EVIC allows you to configure the speedometer various ways - it's in the manual. Congrats - sounds like you got a good deal!

Make sure that you have all the TSB (flashes) for tranny done. Sound like you mind need the latest software.

Ditto.

I feel no lag what so ever, even in ECO mode since getting latest TSB flash. But I rarely floor it while going 65 to get to 80-85. But I'm sure it would move out quite well.

Can't speak for the 6 cylinder but the V8 Hemi sure moves out nicely from any speed.

Re: Picked up my Overland yesterday

I wish that the speedo was like the Chrysler 300 which provided both analog and digital speedo readouts on the EVIC. Thought it was a gimmick until I drove it 900 miles.

Also my diesel in Eco lags but that is no big deal if I push the pedal hard enough it goes. All in all 27.4 mpg is outstanding mixed driving at 1900 miles.

Enjoy your Overland, I sure like mine...

Re: Picked up my Overland yesterday

Thanks, everyone.

I was previously a member on caddillacforums.com and this site appears to be just as informative as that one is. Jeepgarage has already come in handy as i had Milous pull up the vehicle i ended up buyin's build sheet and service history. Had i seen many trips to the dealer for service i probably wouldn't have pulled the trigger on the deal.

Re: Picked up my Overland yesterday

Congrats. FYI... Many trips to the dealer for service is pretty standard.
