My price isn't with any employee pricing. I am friends with the sales manager at my dealership and he was able to beat everyones price for me. No one came close locally. You are getting a decent deal. I know the group buy price for the Summit with V8 is around $48,700 (including the $499 fee) plus tax/tags.

Its not employee pricing, its just a group buy that was worked out with a dealer in northern Virginia and jeepgarage people. Anybody can get it if they want to drive to Northern Virginia. It has been going on for about a year now they have sold well over a 100 jeeps under it. It is 7% under invoice.

(($invoice+options+$995) * .93) + $499 = Your price + tax of course

Re: Picking up a brand new 14, need opinions!

To me the difference between the Summit and the Overland is a question of whether you want a luxurious but rugged SUV, or a luxury SUV. The Summit is much more road/luxury focused, with the lower and more street focused front facia, rear bumper, fender trim, wheels. Inside you get the alcantara headliner, better leather, the HK audio.

When you really stop focusing on the equipment value and look at the fact that the Overland and Summit really go after different buyers you stop worrying about the "value" so much.

Personally I prefer the Overland, I prefer the look of the vehicle overall and the interior color options. But value isn't the reason.

Obvious advice but here it is anyway.

Check the build date.

Inspect for any damage no matter how minor.

Check the miles, don't buy a demo.

As for my opinion, the summit has the most to offer, most notably the superior sound system.

The overland has just about everything the summit has and is a very good value in my opinion. I feel like you get the most bang for your buck out of the overland. I also prefer the wheels on the overland over any other model.

Bottom line, either vehicle is AWESOME. Enjoy the process and the new jeep!

Re: Picking up a brand new 14, need opinions!

Summit is worth it for the HK system. The standard system is pretty sub par for the price. If they offered the HK system on the Overland I'd buy that. I like the Overland front end, color options and wheels better than the new summits.

But to answer your question, if I was in your situation, I'd get the Summit.

Re: Picking up a brand new 14, need opinions!

The Summit can be made to have the off-roady features of the Overland pretty easily, though the Overland can't be made to have the HK stereo or the Adaptive headlights of the Summit quite as easily.

Summit has the tow hitch receiver under the removable bumper cover (a nice feature, IMHO)
Summit has the spots for the recovery hooks in the front, just need cut the front facia a bit and attach the hooks.
Skid plates can be added easily.
Wheels and tires are just wheels and tires.

that's exactly my thinking! I got the summit for basically two reasons, 1) dealer had one coming off of their delivery truck with no miles on it, no test drive other than myself and at a great price compared to the overland offers around town 2) I was after the upgraded interior, I don't do any off road so I don't care for off road package my I do enjoy the upgraded sound and other perks! I do miss the tow hooks but only as a visual thing, would probably never use!

now if you will use the car as I do mostly, for long trips and no off road I'd go summit! if you like rugged visual, off road but still with lots of luxury go overland! they are both awesome cars!

Now for the color, mine is black and ai love it! sometimes I only wished it was red, which I like very muh as well!

if white and granite are your only options I'd go granite!

btw, I think your price is really good!

Re: Picking up a brand new 14, need opinions!

I chose the White with Brown interior...... my current 2011 Summit is Black so wanted something different to justify making a change..... The 2011 Summit in Black is just soooooo hard to beat, it really looks amazing and I just got mine detailed inside and out and waxed (was really really clean anyway) for some photos to put it on AutoTrader......now I am having second thoughts with only 23,700 miles on it. Argh....I really love this color combo!!! The 2014 should be a nice step up though but kinda wish it had the Black/New Saddle interior option though.........

By the way....the photo I included in my post is of the 2011 Summit this week after detailing.....the photo in the "Avatar" from three years ago the day I picked up my new 2011 Summit. Both photos taken in the same local park parking lot. Three years later, and still looks the same!

Re: Picking up a brand new 14, need opinions!

Thanks everyone for their input, the vehicle was not on their lot so they had to ship it. Just to update you on the situation, my family member who had my employee discount control number for me found out they used theirs up, so I'm currently trying to figure out what to do. Was hoping to close this up by Friday but now it's not looking too good.

Re: Picking up a brand new 14, need opinions!

I'm just repeating what a lot of people have said but it really does come down to what look you like and what features you really want.

I like the Overland look a lot more than the Summit and I don't need/want some of the standard features on the Summit that are options on the Overland.

No matter what just make sure you're 100% happy and remember that you're getting a kick ass Jeep no matter what you pick.
