OK, CFarer has ORA-II, which includes skid plates. Is the injector still exposed to potential damage, and not protected by skid plates? (*IF* it is an injector problem....)

I don't believe the skid plates protect the injector based on other threads I've seen. Hopefully it's "just" that. Can anyone answer definitively?

Re: Picking up a brand new 14, need opinions!

I've been a staunch Jeep lover for many years. I've purchased numerous models. I've gotten the itch to trade my '12 GC for a '14. I have been reading all the negative comments and figured that they must just be growing pains for the new system. I looked at the various TSB's and was shocked at how many there are pending for the "14. I have never seen so many.

After going online last night and reviewing customer reviews on Edmunds, I was at awe at how many people have had major problems and have wished they never bought one. I honestly say that I have never in my car buying years, (I've purchased 47 new vehicles in my lifetime), seen so many negative reviews.

I decided that I will keep my '12 GC Ltd., since except for replacing a sensor, has given me many miles of pleasure.

Chrysler, you should be ashamed of yourself.

It's a real tricky situation. I was very scared myself when shopping the Jeeps. Reviews all over the place were horrible. It sucks when you read about people having so many issues with such little support. At the same time you need to consider the amount of vehicles that are being sold. People usually go to the internet to complain about their vehicle issues instead of praise them. That's why we see so many issues with this. I have plenty of friends who have had zero issues with their jeeps. It seemed as most of the issues came from the early production build dates. I am hoping this holds true. My Summit is being built now and should hopefully be delivered in the next week or two. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything will be ok.

I feel completely horrible for the people who are experiencing issues. Shame on you, Chrysler. I really hope that you all have your issues taken care of properly.

Well, I am going to be following this thread in detail now.
Picked up my JGC Overland yesterday, drove the 6 miles home, got in it this morning, pulled out of garage, 1 mile later "Check Engine" light comes on with "Service DEF Sytem" See Dealer message.

Do you know what your build date is?

Re: Picking up a brand new 14, need opinions!

Wile I am sympathetic to those having problems (and I may well be in that group once I take delivery of my new '14 GC ), I also have to remember that to some degree, this is the curse of the internet, whereby a few problems get disproportionate visibility.

I think it is important to remember that Jeep is producing 1200 of these vehicles *A DAY*, and we are seeing what, 5 - 8 - 12 with relatively serious troubles? And in most cases, those problems are resolved with a trip to the dealer. We also have some evidence that where the problems have persisted, Jeep (and/or the dealer) have stepped up and taken care of it.

There are also a lot of folks happy with their GC. For the most part they aren't making multiple posts extolling their satisfaction with the product. If the problems were that pervasive, you wouldn't be able to get an appointment in a dealer's service dept for months, and the used car lots would be overflowing with low mileage '14 GCs.

A little perspective might help see the problems in their true light.

Re: Picking up a brand new 14, need opinions!

While you are probably right about most issues being early build, it is no excuse for them. First off, the vehicle should not have been released to the public without being thoroughly tested. Secondly, how are there so many problems on this forum where people have recently picked up a new vehicle with problems. It means that the dealership didn't go through the numerous TSB's on early build units on their lot prior to retail delivery.

Hopefully, ordering from the factory will get you a decent vehicle. I personally will not buy any vehicle that has been lying on the dealers lot for any period of time. When I purchased my '12 I picked a unit that just came off a truck several days earlier. I figure that if it is a newly delivered vehicle to the dealer, I will get the most recent enhancements.

I tend to agree. I have a 14 overland coming up on 3000 miles with no issues (September build). We also own a 2013 Cadillac SRX and that forum is just as full of issues as this one...

While what you are saying has some credence, the fact that I see something like 30 tsb's for the '14 model means that the new model should never have been released for retail purchase. It is really a black eye for Chrysler. Even more important than that, it hurts to see so many consumers discouraged with taking delivery of a new vehicle with so many problems.

Re: Picking up a brand new 14, need opinions!

EVERY effort to expand the envelope of technology is going to have 'early adopter' problems as the technical specifics get ironed out. It has been so forever.

The only solution is to either buy a car that hasn't changed in 5 years, or wait a year or two for the technology to stabilize before buying.

30 TSBs are evidence of the push Jeep is making, and also of the corrections they are making. That is a relatively quick response to a problem when it is discovered.

Which technology in the new Jeeps would you give up to get a higher reliability? Would you go back to the 5 speed transmission? Stick with the gas engines and not push for a small diesel? Forego the EVIC?

Re: Picking up a brand new 14, need opinions!

For people mentioning early build, mine was built 2/16, so it's reasonably fresh in terms of issues that should have been solved. I praised Jeep for years due to their integration of technology over competitor vehicles, most don't have Blind Spot Monitoring and ACC, for the price you get a Jeep. However, these problems are inexcusable, and their Customer Care department should do their best to truly show they're sorry (Free oil change, coupon, something), not just a measly apology and hope all works out. This happened with my Durango when the computer would shut down turning off my entire dashboard, no speedometer, steering wheel controls, ABS, traction control, etc. Had persisting issues for 12,000 miles, never received more than a small phone call. This will most likely be my last Chrysler vehicle, I think Land Rover at this point builds more dependable vehicles and that's saying something.

Deception, I am sorry you're experiencing the problems and frustrations with Jeep.

However, I am glad to see you going to another path to get satisfaction.

That's EXACTLY how the market is supposed to work!

Good luck with your next choice!
