Picking up new '15 HA tomorrow

I'm picking up my new 2015 HA tomorrow. Is there anything I should pay particular attention or look for in my pre-delivery inspection. I'm driving a distance to get it so if there are any common problems I should be looking for I would like to do it before I leave the dealer.
Thanks in advance

Re: Picking up new '15 HA tomorrow

Congrats, the HA is an awesome vehicle.

Here is what I would recommend looking into in a little more detail on a new Grand Cherokee:
-check body panel alignment. Mainly the doors on these are sometimes not aligned perfectly and you can see excessive gaps one candidate 2015 HA I looked at had both left and right side front doors out of wack. Enough that I wouldn't buy the car.
-another common area is check the fender flares for separation at the corners. I have also seen the adhesive on these coming apart on brand new vehicles. If you find one where all the flares on are right and solid it should be good to go. Most common separation point is the front most part that butts against the front bumper.
-drive thoroughly and make sure transmission is shifting good. Should be smooth and consistent throughout its operation.
-although not common, one HA I test drove had faulty air suspension right from the factory. It literally kept raising and lowering on its own all the time even after shit down. Turned out to be a defective switch in the center console control panel thing.

Other than that just the usual lookin over that would would any vehicle. After seeing 4 in person I hand selected the one I bought that had all the above mentioned in perfect condition. Because of these fairly common quality control issues I personally would not special order a Grand Cherokee and prefer to hand pick mine on the lots. Good luck with everything you're gonna love the Grand Cherokee

Re: Picking up new '15 HA tomorrow

Thank you ... that is exactly the type of info I was looking for. I have bought lots of cars and my son is going with me and he used to be an Infinity tech. Sounds like pretty obvious stuff. I have seen on here about trim over the back doors too.
Are there any electronic version upgrades that should have been done by the dealer?

Depends on MDH build date.... If dealer still open call real quick for the MDH from the drivers door edge....

MDH is in this format:

MM for month
DD for day
HH for military time

Then go here are C what applies to your build date:

1. Check to see if the steering wheel is centered. Took my dealer 3 times to fix.

2. Check bottom corners of doors for paint bubbles. 3 of the 4 doors on mine had bubbles and one had busted.

3. Check the edge of the hood near the windshield (top and bottom) for dirt in paint / bubbles. Look close for this and feel with your fingers.

4. Check the heated front seats. Seems to be a issue with the 15 HAs.

On top of all the good info above, one small little detail:

Don't forget to make sure you get the brushed metal gas/break pedals. They should be stored in the spare compartment in the trunk. My dealer was missing them when I picked it up, made them order me a new set (they weren't even aware the car came with them).

Re: Picking up new '15 HA tomorrow

If it has a metal flake paint then paint flaws, especially round golf ball size areas where the metal flake is more dense, sometimes you can only see this in sunlight, I have like 6 of these on my drivers doors. Go over the paint with a fine tooth comb. Don't be afraid to lay on the ground and check the underside for rust, leaks, damage, anything loose, under side of door/fender paint. Trivia the underside of Ford F150 doors were not painted, just primer (face palm).

I'd also drive it at least 40 miles before I signed anything at various speeds, conditions, at least one road that is very smooth to check for vibrations and preferably on roads I knew. Then check every last electrical/electronic function/feature to make sure everything works and its not throwing errors or codes or behaving weird stuff. Make sure the lights work, all of them. Chrysler bought back my brothers custom ordered Ram 3500, the headlight failed before he could rive it off the lot and it took them 2 months to fix it. The thing was an electrical Twilight Zone episode.

Very good point. The sport bright pedals will either be installed, or in a box somewhere in the vehicle (probably in the back). If not be sure they get them for you by either getting them from another HA on the lot, or ordering them. They are not cheap pedals, are look awesome so be sure to get them.

To go back to panel gap issues, the best way to see what I'm talking about isn't by standing next to the jeep, but look at it from a angle down the side of the Jeep. What I am noticing isn't necessarily the fitment in the opening, but more so sticks out beyond the next panel its up against. Seems to be hit or miss, some are perfect, some have some issues. Its not a huge deal, but if you're super picky like I am it will likely bother you from there on out unless you get one thats perfect.

Re: Picking up new '15 HA tomorrow

Oh and the #1 tip, take someone else with you to give it the once over. Its pretty easy to miss something as the purchaser, being all happy and excited. My brother took me along to look at one of the new Nissan HD diesels, I gave it the stink eye and found two major issues my brother missed. One being it didn't have HID headlights, it had the cheaper halogen. Which brings up another tip, make sure it actually has all the stuff the window sticker says it does.

Re: Picking up new '15 HA tomorrow

Thanks for all the great tips. My son is going with me and he was an Infinity tech for quite a while. He's now a service manager for BMW & Ducati motorcycles so he has a very good eye. My DIL is a service manager for Tesla and I know my way around motor vehicles pretty well too BUT I'm too excited to be objective so thanks again for the great advice.
