Picky WK2 Complaints

OK, this is not a thread that makes light of any valid complaints that folks have had here about any nagging things that new car owners should not have to live with. To the contrary, now that Pandora has graced my screen with her presence and my Overland works pretty much as it was designed and continues to be a great vehicle for our needs, my attention has shifted to little things that are probably not worth a whole lot of attention, but that seem to have gotten no more than that in design.

Here's one from me:

If you look to the right of the "D" for Drive, you will see a number 1 that designates first gear. That's how it looks with a flash on my camera. Here is what I see normally:

It took me over 5,000 miles to realize that my complaint about not being able to detect what gear the transmission was in had less to do with the feature not being offered and everything to do with it not being perceivable.

If I really work at it, I can see the gear indicator if there is absolutely no ambient light on the display. I have played with the display light switch, but it only goes from bad to worse. Maybe it's my eyes. Anybody else bugged by the hidden gear indicator?

Re: Picky WK2 Complaints

I can see it fine in most all conditions and noticed it, maybe on day two, maybe the first, I can't recall.

I think was elegantly done. Not in your face, but there if you want to monitor it.

Perhaps with a Sun Roof you get a lot more ambient light and it gets washed out. I don't have a Sun Roof.

Be nice if these were the only issues

Re: Picky WK2 Complaints

You are correct, it is dim, but it's also your eyes mate. I can always see what gear the car is using, even if I am in Drive.

I just realized after 10,000 miles that the gear display is there! An if I put my reading glasses on (dangerous) I can watch the display change as the transmission changes gears. Where was I? OH, like you just pointed out, could they not have made it a little larger!? Dave

On the 1st week of getting my new 2014 Summit, I bought bi-focal reading glasses. There is way too much information in the EVIC and to read all of this I need reading glasses. The bi-focals allow me to have clear (no optical correction) view field for the road, and if I look down to the EVIC, I can read it clearly (including the gear) through the bottom reading lenses. Best $12 I invested in my Summit.

That's not picky - it's a visit to the dealer. The cup-holders in my 2014 Summit illuminate just fine. Make sure you turn on the headlamps when you check, and if you still can't see a bluish glow - off you go to the dealer...
