Any time you see a Michigan "M" plate it is interesting but the camo shot looks like a '11-'13. Mule maybe ?

Re: Pics - 3.0L CRD Engine and 2014 Limited

I frequently visit Mt. Evans and I have seen several car manufacturers testing their vehicles on their roads. Perhaps, altitude testing? I mean... you can literally drive to 14130 feet on that road. I have seen VW Tuaregs, Ford Escapes, Jaguars, BMWs, etc usually in a group of 4-5 in full camo on that road.

A friend of mine's dad used to work for Jeep back in the days and his dad was part of the testing team. Apparently, they actually take these Jeeps off-road to test their capabilities. Perhaps, these test vehicles were doing exactly that by looking at the dirt and mud on them.

Cheers,
-A

Likely convenience...that whole Tower Road/I25 area offers a lot of hotel space and perhaps their best options were there. A bit of open road to play on, too.

Re: Pics - 3.0L CRD Engine and 2014 Limited

It is very common for manufacturers to test their future builds at altitude. When Ford released their new scorpion diesel for the pickups, they apparently didn't do enough testing at high altitude. The result.... A popular diesel truck magazine tested the Ford against the Chevy and Dodge and they noted quite a few issues at high altitude with the Ford. Ford had to quickly release a programming update to fix the problems.

Yep. I was up there while in CO for a wedding. Unfortunately, in a rented cage and not on my bike. Anyway, we saw a couple test units from a motorcycle company. Likely BMW and their new water cooled boxer. Couldn't pull the camera out fast enough. The weather changes at the drop of a hat, too. It started snowing in July at the summit. Daughterkid and me in front of a drift still melting (for reference, I am 6'1").

Re: Pics - 3.0L CRD Engine and 2014 Limited

I saw a video posted yesterday with 7.1L/100km hwy on it. That translates to 33 mpg on the highway. Very impressive! My 335d is rated at 36 mpg. I'll take that very minor decrease for the immense increase in function. I know, they're totally different vehicles, but my needs have changed.

The diesel will probably get around 26 combined. 33 MPG is very believable for a diesel going at 55 MPH.

This is what I assume most car companies do...run it at max highway speed limit and just quote that number.

Re: Pics - 3.0L CRD Engine and 2014 Limited

I would be totally satisfied with combined 26 mpg. I'd actually be happy with 23 combined. That'd be a full 1/3 better than the hemi and 10% better than the v6. Yes, it comes at a premium but I'm more interested in reducing my fuel consumption than just saving money.

Re: Pics - 3.0L CRD Engine and 2014 Limited

Actually no. What they are allowed to quote in the US is what is reported by the EPA from a very specific driving cyle.

See Fuel Economy - if you drill down far enough you will find the details of exactly how each test is run and a spreadsheet with MPG values to four decimal places. The whole numbers are rounded up from the decimals if above .5000 and down if below (why a 5% improvement in the V6 2WD Highway rating takes it from 23 to 25). Ad men know how to shape information to meet their needs.

For example if you wondered how the V6 could have the same highway (23) mpg in 2wd and 4wd, the answer is they don't.

The 7.1L/km was on a Jeep in a Canadian auto show... they might have different rules.

As has been discussed the US CRD will be rated at 29 hwy for 4x4 and 30 for 2wd.

Many are guessing real world numbers will come out slightly better. Slightly.
