And that moment when the lightbulb comes on....... priceless!
Yeah, I remember seeing the perplexed look on my dad's face.

Re: Pissed off ...

We had the same thing happen on an old 70 chevy impala and the damn key even fit !!!

It worked on the door, but I can't recall what happened after that. I think we figured it out once we were in it

Re: Pissed off ...

Good one Bill. My dad tells a story of a friend of his that went to the parking lot, and got into what he thought was his new car. Put the key in, started it, and drove home. An hour later, the police were at his door. Another guy had the same car, and the keys fit both. The other guy only noticed when his briefcase was not in the back seat where he left it. Big laugh in the end.

There's only so many combinations that can be made with keys.

Re: Pissed off ...

Two stories.

First, I recall coming down in to a parking garage to get in to my Forest Green Ford Explorer. Walked up do it, hit the alarm, and the chirp came from a different one. There were FIVE of them within a few cars of each other that day.

Second, regarding car keys.

Out doing some rock climbing, and a friend needed to go back to my other friends truck. Since he was going, I gave him my keys as well for safe keeping. My friends and I all had Toyota pickups at the time.

When he came back, he had my keys in his hand. Aghast, I said "You didn't lock the truck did you?" "Yea, I did." "Those are my keys, not Toms." "But they opened the truck." "They did? Which door?" "The drivers door." Tom says, "Funny, my drivers door lock is broken. I can't open it with my key!" So apparently my key could open Toms broken lock.

My key also opened my other friends truck as well. That era of late 80's Toyotas were notoriously easy to break in to, mine was eventually stolen.

I grabbed the door handle ... the door didn't open.
I pressed the fob ... the door didn't open.
I tried the other front door ... it didn't open.
I figured I'd try the tailgate ... it had somebody else's license plate on it.

My Jeep was three spots down with plenty of room on both sides.

Rats, because I was about to ask if anybody has tried the Dr. Colorchip stuff.

Unfortunately, unlike you, I was in my own garage when I noticed two small scratches on the left front fender.

Bill... my mom did this when I was a kid. We were in Meijer, grocery shopping. I still remember the $200 bill (in the 1990s!!!)

My mom used her key, UNLOCKED THE DOOR, unlocked the trunk, while we were putting groceries in the car I noticed that my stuffed Mickey Mouse wasn't in the backseat. (Yeah that's how young I was!!!)

That's when we finally noticed that we were in the wrong car. Same Hunter Green Plymouth Duster, key worked in the doors, everything.

I looked around and my mom's car was about 4 spaces down next to a huge conversion van. The owners of the other Duster came out and they couldn't believe what happened either. That was a very difficult story to explain. But we all laughed it off.
Same thing happened to my Mom in the 70's when she worked at a dealership. Some guy test drove her car, with keys from a completely different car, then asked the salesman why there were clothes in the back seat.

Re: Pissed off ...

I used to drive a 1975 AMC Hornet and my friend had a '74 Hornet. His ignition key worked in my car and I could unlock his doors with my key.

This made for lots of fun since back then, you could start the cars without a key if you didn't turn the ignition all the way back to the lock position.
