Hey. Today me n my buddy plasti dipped for the first time. Did the chrome bar at the back of my '12 GC. Really happy with the outcome. Im planning on doing the chrome bits on the side, 4X4 logo and jeep logo on the front.
I really want to do my front grill. But i dont want to take off the whole front. Is there a way to remove the front chrome grill without removing the whole bumber?
I am buying stock in 3M Painter's Tape and Plasti Dip. There are some repairs to be done in the tow hook area but it is coming out fine.
I just learned that really, you must use a sharp knife to help cut the rubber and not put tape all the way to the edge. I am sure that as my skill progresses, my work will get better. Next - mirrors and front grille. The matte finish matches the texture/color of the plastic so it is all good.
Has anyone found a way to remove the front grill of a 2014 Laredo without removing the bumper?? Want to plasti dip the chrome insert on my grill this weekend and don't want to remove the bumper. Thanks
Sorry miss read your post. I looked at my grill gonna be very tough to mask from behind and ensure complete coverage of the chrome. They say when plasti dipping to cover past the desire cut off point but that will also be a pain when dipping a grill. Like I said I will be dipping this weekend and will do the grill last and see how I can mask it cause I really don't want to remove it.
I am sure you have the instructions...but I attached them nevertheless.
Page 5 of the PDF is not very clear if I have to remove the front fascia before I can remove the grille.
I have my front grill and back brow plasti dipped black. I drive a 2013 wk2. Back brow pops off with a few clips top and bottom. Front chrome grill piece also pops off with 6 clips on top and 6 on bottom. I'll post a pic of my back brow and front grill. Once you do one you almost have to do the other though it looks so much better. Best of luck to you and post pics once you're finished!
Yea I wanted to also, but like you said it would be tough to tape perfectly. I've seen people post pics on this forum but never close ups...My wheels have some chrome in them so I can get away with keeping the chrome trim on the windows but I might just do the door moldings.
I've ordered a couple of cans to do the window trim, I tried vinyl wrap like Scot did but it didn't go we'll, I'm sure a professional could do it but I gave it my best shot and failed, plasti dip it is for me.
Here are the photos I took and posted to another thread, showing my plasti dip work. Some up close shots of the finish too, but I missed getting photos during the window trim process. I followed the above video for guidance and it worked well...after the second try that is.
I actually just did the side mirrors, grille, roof rails, and bottom part of the bumper this past weekend. Turned out awesome. I was WAY too lazy to remove the grille so I said screw it and just painted it while it was on the Jeep. So far no problems with overspray behind. All I did was tape everything off, and rub some alcohol to remove any dirt and then put about 3-5 coats on. Any more questions just let me know.
So Far have done my Rims and back tail lights.
Next might be front 7 Grille / Fog Bezels / Lower Chrome guard.
The rear scuff plate might just order the black plate.
