Re: Pleasantly surprized 3.6L mileage

At 7k miles, V6 ~14-15 'burbs, 19-20 highway trips overall, but 22-24 when strictly rural Interstate. Don't goose it all that much, and make lotsa use of cruise control even around home.

Highway mileage is with second passenger, and I'm a big guy, plus luggage and stuff.

Re: Pleasantly surprized 3.6L mileage

I consistently get over 25 mpg on the highway. That with the cruise set at 5 over. My last trip to upstate NY I got 25.4 on the way up, and that was with a stop to the NYC suburbs to visit family.

I routinely travel to my cabin in the mountains which is a 90 minute drive. I climb to then cross under the Blue Ridge Parkway, and half the route is all up and down, with a net elevation change of over 4000 feet. On the way up I get 22 or so, and on the way back well over 28.

I am so glad I insisted on the Pentastar engine. There were something like 16 of these Overland models at my dealer when I was looking and mine was the only one with the V6. I tool around town with this vehicle and I just love the low rpm torque it produces.

Re: Pleasantly surprized 3.6L mileage

I'm consistently getting about 21 - 22 MPG on my commute with the JGC, i drive about 70 % on the traffic clogged Atlanta interstates and about 30 % of my driving is suburban.

I'm happy with the gas mileage.

My wife gets better mpg when she drives my GC. I noticed this on long trips... maybe I rev too much.

I too consistently hit 25mpg with freeway driving and when I'm in no rush and stay right at 70mph, I easily break 26mpg. This is during the summer time of course...with winter gas, I usually don't do much better then 23-24mpg.

My dealer was the opposite...out of 15 or so on the lot, they only had a couple Hemi's. When I asked why, they told me that sell about 1 or 2 hemi's out of every 10 GC, so they no longer order many hemi models.

If I towed a lot, I probably would have gone with the 5.7, but given the amount of driving I've done the last 6mos, the 3.6L has surpassed my expectations (minus the cel light issue).

Re: Pleasantly surprized 3.6L mileage

Im at 8700 miles today. Had it since January. I have never got below 20.5 mixed driving and as high as 22.8 mixed. Did almost24mpg on my 380 mile road trip. (all hand calculated) I have been more than happy with EVERY aspect of the Pentastar. Great power surprisingly with the 5 speed. The engine sounds really good too!! My last Jeep was an 06 Hemi Ltd so that is saying something for me to actually be impressed and not just content!

Re: Pleasantly surprized 3.6L mileage

Well, I feel a little better after reading some of the posts. Our 2013, with 1171 miles has just averaged 14.2 mpg; however, that was my wife experimenting with E85. No more of that! Back to real fuel. We can still get pure gasoline out here, so I told her to put in regular today and see what happens. Heck, I am averaging 22-24 with my 2011 Mustang GT/CS 5.0, but with premium.

My '11 with the 3.6, QT1, and OEM Forteras 245-70-17 got 21 mpg average and up to 26 on the highway I saw it go as low as 12 while towing.

Then I put GY Wrangler Silent Armors on it 245-70-17 and I get an average of 19-20 and on the highway I can't get more than 23.

Tire pressure can make quite a difference in rolling resistance.

Re: Pleasantly surprized 3.6L mileage

OP - compute your mileage from actual miles and gas receipts. Your mileage is right in line with what I actually get. My dash computer, however, thinks I am more in the 24.9 to 25.1 range depending on when I look at it. My actual MPG over 4,444 miles is 22.20. That mileage was covered over a little less than 5 weeks, so it is about 80% highway and 20% city. Could be that you dash computer is more accurate than mine, your mileage looks to be right on what I am getting.

Re: Pleasantly surprized 3.6L mileage

I have logged every fill up since I bought my 2012 Overland V6 4x4 new in march. The other day I took all my fillups and calculated my overall economy since I purchased it and im at 18.6mpg. My best tank was 19.6mpg and worst was in the 17's. Thats with very little highway use maybe 5% of my driving. I have 5,000 miles on it and do strictly far suburban driving. Overall not bad considering thats with no highway use. Another way to look at it is I also calculate my wifes 2004 Honda Accord V6 mileage and she gets around 22. So a 5000lb loaded Overland is only a few less than my wifes Honda Accord :-) sounds good to me!!

Re: Pleasantly surprized 3.6L mileage

I've got a Hemi and I average 18 - 19 MPG in 50/50 mixed city/highway. I've had as high as 26.4 MPG on a single highway trip. I can get over 500 mile per tank on long highway trips. I'm completely pleased! I'm also very happy with my decision to buy a Hemi!

What I want to know is how freaking hard do you have to drive a v6 to only get 14 MPG in mixed city/highway driving?
