Please help get me out of my Ford and back to Jeep!

I made the terrible mistake of selling my 2014 GC Limited and getting into a 2015 Ford Explorer (jeep was giving me a ton of issues. Might have responded a bit harshly).

Im man enough to admit my mistake, so now I want to come home. Im looking at the 2015 Overland but cant do anything until I get rid of the Ford Explorer.

If you know anyone that is looking for a Ford Explorer or any new vehicle (That doesnt want a Jeep, of course), please send them the below link.

Ive put the 2015 Ford Explorer up on Lease Trader. Hopefully someone takes it and then I will be back in a Jeep where I belong. Thank you, Friends!

...and for an XLT. That's like paying that much for a Laredo.

It's also close to what I'm paying to finance my Limited, including the stuff I added on.

What is it exactly that you don't like about the Explorer?

Re: Please help get me out of my Ford and back to Jeep!

Pros & Cons of Ford Explorer

PROS:
- Extremely roomy. Seriously, if you need three rows of seating than this is the vehicle for you.
- Solid Stance. Did not get pushed around on the highway at all. Its like sitting in a tank
- Changeable Radio Background. You can change the background image on the radio. Its a cool little feature that doesnt make or break the vehicle, just fun.
- Huge cargo space. With the third row down there was a ton of room. Alot wider of a space as well.

CONS:
- Confusing Voice Activated Everything. In the jeep you just hit the voice button and say "Find Address _______". Ford you have to push the button then say "Navigation, Find an address, Address ______". Its just confusing to remember and not intuitive.
- Gas Milage. Terrible. The jeep is no prince but it atleast has a 26 gallon tank. The ford tank is 16 GALLONS! It makes it seem like youre burning through gas much quicker
-Door is too far from driver. In the Jeep you can rest your elbow comfortable on the window sill of the driver door. The Fords doors seem so far away from your seat that its a stretch to make that happen.
- Driver's Seat. This is by far the biggest reason for me getting rid of this vehicle. The front padding is not long enough, needs more length under your thighs. Most Importantly (and this might only affect me) is the seat cushion layout. Most seats have a flat area and then the sides bolster up to keep you centered in the seat. The Ford has a higher center cushion than the side bolstering. Meaning it creates a crevice in the drivers seat that is exactly where your thighs would rest. For me, this actually pinches a nerve and causes my leg to fall asleep. Its incredibly uncomfortable to me and I spend a lot of time driving.

It all boils down to the age old argument of "Lease vs. Buy".

I had a 2014 GC Limited that was financed. $520/month...for 84 months. Any vehicle can have cheap monthly payments if youre willing to spread out the length of time.

For me, leasing is the way to go. I get the opportunity to get a new vehicle every few years and I dont have to worry about maintenance. Its certainly not for everyone and I can understand both sides of the argument. It all comes down to everyone personal situation. I dont like to hold on to cars for ten years nor eat the depreciation off a brand new vehicle till im back above water.

You can do that to a certain extent in the Jeep, too.

Go to Settings > Display > Set Theme

The thing that would be nice is if you could add your own backgrounds.

Thats exactly what you can do in the Ford (which is pretty neat). Right now my background is set to the Dallas Skyline. During football season it was set to my teams logo. You can upload any JPG you want and use it as the background. It just adds that little personal touch to make the vehicle your own.

I'm paying less than that and I'm not anywhere close to 84 months. You either a) need to negotiate harder, b) are getting hosed on interest rates or c) need to put more down on a financed vehicle.

The first two could also apply to a lease. You're paying almost as much as I am for a lease on a vehicle one step below the equivalent Jeep we both finance(d). The Limited on both the Ford and Jeep have roughly the same trim lines, plus or minus a few features.

You shouldn't be paying that much to lease a vehicle with a base price of $33K, even if you put no more than 2K down. Heck, pricing out every single option (adding almost 12K to the base price of the 4x4 XLT, for around 48K), it was still less than $480 by putting down $2500. With all the stuff I added, I'll bet it would have been cheaper to just get the Explorer Limited, which would include some of it.

I'm just saying, you have more reason than ever to get out of that Ford: you need to do some better negotiating on a Jeep.

In my case, I build the exact vehicle that I want, then negotiate a good price that I can afford. When I pay that off, I keep the vehicle for several years free and clear because I built what I want to drive.

Heck, even if I really wanted out, I'll bet I could sell the Jeep for less than what I owe after 3 years since the amount I financed was less than the Blue Book of the vehicle.

Having said that, if leasing works for you, feel free. You just need to barter a little harder because you're paying far too much to not own your vehicle.

Re: Please help get me out of my Ford and back to Jeep!

Unless they have added it, the Explorers don't have a built in garage door opener either. I noticed this when I tested an Explorer Sport just before buying my Overland. I should have known I suppose, my Mustang didn't have one either. My wife's 2004 Touareg had one as does her current Cadillac SRX.

The SRX has the same door spacing issue the Ford has in that I cannot rest my arm anywhere on the door and still have my hand on the wheel. It's a great vehicle other than that, but I still prefer my Overland

Re: Please help get me out of my Ford and back to Jeep!

I just lease vehicles to myself. I set my own terms.
I put any amount of miles and keep it as long or short as I want

I "leased" my 2014 Limited for close to $300.00/mo 18k miles per year and got out early at 18 mos with no penality and hopped into a 2015 Overland.

Can I ask the lease terms of your Overland and also the monthly payment? Also, what Overland package did you get?
