Re: Please Help Getting Weak looking at 4Runners :(

I would fork over my hard earned cash for the new 2016 BMW X1 before I would buy a 4Runner.

That front end has got to be the ugliest thing I've seen in years....
Makes the old Pontiac Aztek look down-right pretty.

Toyota has been 'screwing the pooch' for a few years now:
The boring 'new' Camry.
The non-V6 RAV.
And the butt-ugly front ends on their trucks.

The Tundra used to be 'muscular' looking, now it's as bland as the Nissan Titan, and don't even get me started on that ugly POS that Nissan is releasing as "new". The ONLY reason it will sell is because of the Cummins V8 under the hood. It sure won't win any design awards!

yeah agree, Nissan used to put out some ok vehicles that had a little personality to them but now they have just turned into another Toyota. boring econobox vehicles for people that don't car about cars or what they drive and just want something with wheels that will get them from a to b.

Re: Please Help Getting Weak looking at 4Runners :(

There are many diesels with problems, but for most of us the problem is not a serious one. Get a flash, get a cat, done. The early guys had long down times because the dealer and FCA didn't know what the problem was. Now they're following a script and it's typically NOT frequent or prolonged visits to get it fixed. Plus, for most there's no down time, the car still runs.

So I feel the diesel issue is way overblown. Lots of people have it but the problem isn't very difficult to solve. I too would buy it again in a heartbeat. LOVE it in every way. BUT engine choice is personal, so try them all.

As for the Toyota vs Jeep thing...I'm a long time Japanese car guy. Several Toyotas, a Honda, a Suzuki, a Nissan, a Mitsubishi, several Subarus. To me buying Japanese gets you reliability, but it also gets you boring (Except for my Eclipse, it's definitely NOT boring!) We just bought our second Jeep. I'm willing to trade reduced reliability for a MUCH nicer experience. The Jeeps feel so much nicer inside than equivalent Japanese cars.

Keep in mind too that almost ALL cars are solid where it counts - engine, tranny, etc. The issues now are mostly electronic - flashes and little things. I believe Jeep reliability is reduced BECAUSE they can be updated with software. NONE of the Japanese cars I've owned even had that as an option. I'd rather be able to update and do so several times than not be able to and get a better reliability grade.

Try them both, make your decision! But don't be afraid of any of the Jeeps, they're much better than you'd think reading around the forums. At least that's my experience so far!

Toyota has a great reputation for building just one, maybe two cars ... Thats it. Dont be fooled into thinking you are getting a great truck because Toyota built two good cars in the nineties and got famous because of that.

I took a look at a 4runner for about .0001 seconds and nearly lost my lunch. That thing is Juke ugly!

That being said, the new Highlander looks pretty good, but the Jeep has way better off-road capability. That could be an option.

The new Ford Edge is new for this year. That might be a possibility.

Only you can decide. Take some test drives and evaluate what is important to you.

Juke ugly lol. Yeah juke is top of my list in the ugly category. Nissan really putting out junk any more. Pathfinder ruined into a minivan. I just saw the 2016 maxima another ruined one, it gets more boring with every new redesign, it looks like a honda accord now.

I think the 16 Maxima looks better than an accord. And they nailed it on the interior. Looks really good.

The 4R just sucks. The powertrain might be reliable but it's total crap. Nothing like driving a dinosaur.

I have had maximas before and i used to like them, i just keep waiting for them to do something with it. That 3.5L has been in it as the only engine for almost 15 years. Its a good engine but give us some spice turbo charge it or give us something to impress. Altima is the same size and the family hauler, maxima is supposed to give us spice give us more. They are just in this rut of cant make the car to good or nobody will jump to infiniti so we are stuck with this medeocere over priced thing. Loaded they are 40+ they are just not worth it. A friend of mine bought a new one last year silver with black interior with a sticker of 35k he paid 24.5k thats the deepest percentage discount i have ever seen on a new car, people dont want em anymore. I used to be a nissan fan years ago but they have just lost their way with the junk they put out now

In my opinion the last good Maxima Nissan made was the one I owned - a 1993 Maxima SE. It looked good both inside and out, handled like a sports car, was fast, and the engine was rock solid. Mine had 200K when I sold it and the guy who bought it was a former Nissan mechanic who said it would go at least 300K before it needed an overhaul. Awesome ride.

Yes years back they were sport oriented and had a following, nissan should be embarrassed to call what they got now their flag ship. For 12 years from 2004 to 2016 it gained a lousey 35 horse power. Nissan lost its flare its just another toyota now making point a to point b cars. They got GTR but thats 100k+ not something most can afford.
