That's the reason I bought my GC, I didn't want to fool around with a transfer case anymore.

That's because "AWD" is typically a term reserved for something low-tier/marginal capability, such as a viscous coupling transfer case (ugh).

The T4R has true 4WD with a "real" transfer case, just like our WK2's. Furthermore, the T4R trim levels being discussed indeed have a locking rear differential equipped (or as an available option)--and that's not something we can engage/disengage directly in Jeep Quadra Drive II, unlike the T4R owners. Furthermore, a Quadra Trac II WK2 doesn't even have a locking rear differential at all. Suffice it to say that offroad, the 4WD T4R is just as capable as a 4x4 WK2 (if not more so).

The Limited T4R (their top trim) has full-time 4WD, implying that it has a center differential. The Trail and the SR5 trims have part-time 4WD, which means those vehicles do *not* have a center diff and therefore should only engage their 4WD on surfaces that offer slip (e.g. snow, dirt, gravel). Protip for those who like avoiding the destruction of their transfer case: this "surface must have slip" restriction holds for QD2 WK2's as well when in 4LO.

But yeah, you probably don't want to go around referring to a 4x4 QD2-equipped WK2 or a 4WD T4R as "AWD": the drivetrains on those two vehicles are far more rugged & capable than the typical minivan, sedan, or crossover that has an AWD's viscous coupling (or something else that's lame/marginal and is therefore categorized as AWD).

Our 2014 4Runner Limited was Auto, 4hi or 4lo. Unless you bought a 2wd Limited... Lol so yeah it's AWD.

Re: Please Help Getting Weak looking at 4Runners :(

I just traded in a 2014 4Runner. I love my new GC Summit, but I also loved my T4R Limited for different reasons (larger cargo area, rolldown rear glass, rugged looks, nice looking 20" rims, high off ground. However. my family HATED it as it hopped down the road and it was hard to get up in.

Same exact thing here! I really liked it's spacious back seat as well.

Look at the 2015 diesel GC. Not many complaints on them on here and have been on road for over 6 months now. Majority of issues appear to be on the 14's.

Re: Please Help Getting Weak looking at 4Runners :(

I traded my 2005 (4th Gen) 4Runner for a 2012 WK2 Overland, which I then traded for a 2015 Overland.

The current 4Runner is a joke IMHO. Toyota decided to "dumb down" the 5th Generation 4Runner in several ways. There were several features available on the 4th Gens (2006-2009) that were not even available has options on the 5th Gens. Toyota called in a "back to basics" change despite the fact that they didn't lower the price to compensate for the fewer features.

So if you are looking for simplistic SUV, maybe the 4Runner might fit you. But if you want a world class SUV that offers the latest options, features, and capabilities, then the WK2 is a far better choice.

Re: Please Help Getting Weak looking at 4Runners :(

How about a nice Jeep Liberty? It has a 4 speed automatic, which means it is twice as fast as our 8 speed Grand Cherokees. Half the shifts required, do the division.

The Jeep Liberty also has a 3.7 liter V6 (every decimal counts here). So we have half the shifts, and 0.1 more liquid liters which equals like...at least 50 more HP than the base model Grand Cherokee. Unfortunately all that raw, untamed power will cost you at the pump.

Hold up, is it me, or is it freezing in here? ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1434713482.169974.jpg
