Pretty simple really, the WK2 is way over priced! Glad there are folks willing to pay, lube or no lube. Sure hope they all take great care of them too, as somebody is paying the depreciation on my next Jeep. :D

Yeah. I would've bought YEARS ago but the WK was a step backwards from the WJ. Luckily, I discovered how uncomfortable it was because I had one for a week as a loaner. If I just test drove it once, I might've gone for it.

-Seats were uncomfortable.

-My friggin knee kept hitting the key.

-The worst thing for me was the WK's awful A pillars. I felt like I was missing a third of the viewable area I had with the WJ. I'm so happy they changed back to slim ones on the WK2 (though I miss the assist handle.).

Indeed it was Scott, which is why I paid under $20k for my 07' Limited with every available option after it was 3 yrs old and had a few miles on it. I suspect I will be making a similar purchase by 2014 where I will spend 1/2 the price the current owner paid. Been doing it that way for years and will continue to do so as long as their are folks willing to pay top dollar for a Grand and then sell it when it is hardly even broken in. ;)

Like I said above folks, please take great car of your new WK2 so I need not do much to it when I pay cash in a few years. :D

Damn I thought I got a great deal on a new WK. I paid 26k for a new 09 limited when the sticker said 40k. I sometimes wish I got the hemi for another 2k but I didn't know better then.

Nate, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a high volume vehicle and if you know exactly what you are looking for and are willing to wait, you can find a 3yr old one with limited miles that can be had for 1/2 off even invoice. For me it is the difference between having a trio of Grands in the stable and having just one with massive pymts. All 3 of my current Grands were purchased when 3 yrs old and between them I didn't pay what a new WK2 cost even those who are getting them at invoice.

I'll save buying new for a vehicle that is produced in fairly limited numbers and which loses very little value the first 3 yrs. Just a different way of looking at things and what one considers to be fiscally prudent. ;)

Exactly what topic is it that you wanted to start with the original post?

I would think that the pic just might suggest that you feel a bit violated by the price you paid for your WK2. Then again, I have been accused of posting half asleep and being about as dumb as a box of rocks by a few of the boys on my ignore user list. :D

Carry on with whatever the topic may be, as there's little use in discussing the value of purchasing new vs used with most folks...........

Yeah I think I'm going to buy used next. But when I was getting my jeep the finance guy left some important details out. Originally I was getting a new silver larado with x-package. I negotiated the price and there was a balloon paylent of 5k at the end of the loan. then I went to a Limited and negotiated a price. The monthly payment went up but he failed to tell me the balloon went from 5k to 8k. I realized that when I went to pick up the jeep and was sitting down signing all the paperwork. I started adding up numbers and it wasn't making sense.

Also with the extended warranty I purchased I got a "discount". The way they made up the discount was they still charged me the full amount of the warranty but they lowered my APR to compensate for the amount discounted. I asked him WTF cause I have excellent credit. How come I didn't get the lower interest before. He pretty much put on an academy award wining performance about how everything works and at that point I was like F*CK IT just give me the f*cking jeep. So I got the limited and refinanced through my credit union to get rid of the balloon payment.

Also they will tell you that you can refinance after 3 month of payments with your own bank but that's not true. You can refinance ASAP just they will get the credit for the loan after 3 months of payments.....

Sorry for the rant...

Lowering the interest rate when the extended warranty is included is normal. It's because Chrysler finances the extended warranty portion of the loan at a 0% interest rate, so the overall rate drops slightly. Sounds like your guy tried to suggest he was giving you a special 'deal', when he was doing what is required.

For me, I'd always rather pay extra for a brand new car. I understand that new cars lose value as soon as i pull off the lot. I get it. That doesn't matter to me.

I view automobiles like i view underwear and toothbrushes. I'm not having one that someone else had before me. Some people like to save money and buy used, some people dont care about saving the money as long as they get what they want. To each his own....some people think buying new off the lot is a sucker move, some people think buying someone else's problem used is a sucker move.

I will say this, there is nothing like a "brand new" car. The smell, seeing 0 on the odometer, knowing you are the first person to drive the car, and for a wk2 overland, knowing you are the first person in the area with one, seeing heads turn when you drive by, none of those things can be experienced with a used car. But, like I said, to each his own, and a brand new car to me, please.

Have i changed your mind yet? No? It's cool.

x2. My Lincoln was one of the "problem" cars that someone else in AK have to deal with now. That engine damn near got overhauled at 25-30K miles. Not to mention the front in damage that it had. I've only had two used cars in my life. One was my Jeep and the other was my SS. My ZJ I got lucky with, my SS... not so much (but I"m not complaining about my SS since I got if for free lol).

Plus if you buy your car (not lease), based on if you drive 12-15K miles per year in 3 years you could turn around and sale it with little to no rollover. You would have paid off half of your car and if you if bought a new car at the end of the year (rebates) you can walk away without being hit hard. If I drove like a normal person and didn't have 56K miles, but had 27K miles on my Lincoln I'm sure that I could have walked away not owing a red penny on that car.

+1 to Joe in PA: it makes no sense economically to buy a new car, ever

+1 to Scott: circa $42k for the o-land kitted out is a great relative value, compared to prior JGC's, or compared to any vehicle in its category, imports included

+1 to Dubwarren, it's a blast just to buy a new car, maybe because it makes no sense economically and is just pure joy (though DW stretched on the toothpaste and underwear analogy, that just sounded like the guy in schmoe's ad, but it was a good pitch)

+1 to JoeSchmoe, I kinda like getting bent over for this one

Few people maintain their cars as well I do. I do most of my own work. I bleed the brakes every couple years. I change the oil regularly. I do my own brakes. I make sure the transmission fluid gets serviced. I even changed my own fuel filter (myself) on my car at the 5 year mark to make sure I don't have a fuel pump failure. No way I'm buying someone else's car after 2-3 years of potential neglect. Sure, they may wash it regularly and the paint might look nice, but you don't know what distaster is waiting for you mechanically. If money is tight, buying used makes financial sense. Personally, I'm buying new and paying cash every 5-7 years even if I loose $10-20K over the 7 year period compared to those that bought 2 used vehicles in that same timeframe. Worth the peace of mind to me.

I like buying new cause I don't have to worry about any surprise issues. It's brand new and if something goes wrong than it's under warranty. I just like the security of knowing my car is less likely to break down I guess. LOL
