Re: Poll: Best GC Interior Color

I have the black/saddle with the white exterior, which is what I wanted and still think it looks awesome but after 8,000 miles, the saddle interior on the driver's seat is wearing horribly. I lower my Overland every time I get out, but the color is rubbing off of the bottom edge. Covered by warranty....maybe, but I don't want to hassle with it. May go to some leather experts to see if it can be redyed.

Re: Poll: Best GC Interior Color

I special ordered a vehicle because the saddle rubs me the wrong way, the color is just annoying/gimmicky to me.... especially a saddle dash. But that is just me. The trim on the overland black makes the interior pop.... Although there was quite a discussion between the salesmen at the dealership when I picked her up, seems you either like or hate the saddle.

Re: Poll: Best GC Interior Color

pharmade,

I had the same problem on my Summit on the outside edge of the driver's seat. I believe from seeing other samples of saddle wear on this website that the saddle interior sometimes is inconsistent in taking the dye from the supplier. Pretty annoying after the wait and price of the Summit. I had a local CCI (Creative Color Interiors) dealer look at my Summit and he re-dyed the wearing edge ($45). He talked about it being aniline leather and he did an amazing job of matching the color. No one would ever know it had been done if I did not tell them.

That being said, the coloring is what the dealer called an "antiquing" effect using several colors to get the effect on the Summit. It has been about two weeks since he re-dyed the area and so far, so good. It does bring up the question of durability of the saddle interior. I also had a couple of spots I feared were scratches on the armrest. He looked at those and laughed. He said they were "scars" incurred by the cow and transferred to the hide and had seen many cases of this in Ford Super Duty trucks in the King Ranch version (very popular in this area). You can tell by running your finger over those areas and they are raised instead of being indented (or so he said). I asked if this caused a weakness in those areas and he said it was probably stronger just as scars are in people. He has also seen actual cattle ranch brands in leather household furniture before. Time will tell on how I feel about the saddle interior, at least on the seats. I have my fingers crossed.

This sounds like a pretty significant problem. Is this happening on a lot of saddle leather interiors or is it only a sporadic defect?

I got a black interior because it will age more gracefully. I won't see the dirt and scuff marks the way I would with a light color. (If I asked my hiking buddies to take off their boots before they got in the jeep, they would just laugh.)

Other - I just can't imagine giving up that wooden heated steering wheel that feels so good in my hands on the overland
Wow, do I ever love this feature. For us old farts with cold hands, it's a godsend.

Re: Poll: Best GC Interior Color

I don't think the saddle issue I had is widespread, but it does happen. There are threads from the past where folks had discussed it, maybe 4 or 5 if I remember correctly. If there was a lot of it going on (plenty of saddle owners on this site), you can bet your Aunt Lucy's pension it would show up here on this website. Shyness is not a trait practised here!!!!
