Re: Possible Shifter Issue

When I quit thinking of it as a shifter and accepted it as a switch that needs a little time in each position to engage, I started having way less trouble. So I agree with the advice to slow down your actions. Will be glad to see this device replaced, but pissed that I'll be stuck with it for a long time. My pet peeve on this truck.

Re: Possible Shifter Issue

I agree, the shifter is clunky, and takes some getting used to, but I can live with it.

That looks a lot like the shifter in the 2015. What's the difference?

edit: never mind....so it actually has real positions for the gears instead of just two positions (one click and skip to the end) forward and back?

Glad to see you back on the forum. We missed your expertise. Hope all is well in Detroit.

Well that's great for the 2016+ Jeeps.

But the rest of us are stuck with the current POS Shifter.

I think this picture and the accompanying text from that link you posted says it all...

So, no paddles anymore?

I'm not sure whether I'm down with that or not.

On the one hand, the paddles are a pain when you're trying to turn and manually shift at the same time. It's also easy to bump them accidentally.

On the other hand, I like the idea of not having to take my hand off the wheel when shifting manually. I came from a manual transmission and am used to using my right hand to shift, but it's nice to not have to.

I *really* don't think they're gonna put a Dodge shifter in a Jeep.

Just sayin'.

Could / would they have the shifter function traditionally but keep the paddles?

I don't see any reason why they couldn't. Especially if it's still an electronic shifter. Maybe and this is just me thinking out loud but maybe they will have the shifter activate Sport Mode only when bumped to the left of Drive while keeping the paddle shifters at the steering wheel and getting rid of the holding the shifter in drive to activate Sport Mode.
