Lately I've noticed the shifter hasn't been cooperating with me. Sometimes when I am parking in a parking spot, I go to shift into Park from Drive and it will not let me shift straight into Park. It makes me shift up one by one into Neutral, than Reverse and then finally into Park. Has anyone else had this issue?
When going from D to P, try holding the shifter forward until you actually see it going into P on the gear indicator. It can be finicky sometimes if you do it quickly.
I've had this problem driving them at work. We all do. Your brain and limbs work too fast for the Jeep. You'd think this would never happen, but like MDBones said, just slow down and confirm with the gauge cluster.
The question is, will this be over sooner rather than later?
Yeah I almost always hold the shifter to make sure its in the right gear. I once thought it was in park and it was in reverse and almost backed into a pole, which is why I make sure its in the correct gear but that isn't the issue I am having. The shifter locks and doesn't allow me to shift it all the way upwards to put it into park.
I usually hold it for a few seconds so it can go into park but with the issue I'm having it locks the shifter so I can't move it all the way up into park.
A new performance-inspired electronic shifter provides a smooth transfer between gears with short throws and low shift effort. It functions like a traditional shifter, giving the driver visual and physical feedback of gear position.
When I quit thinking of it as a shifter and accepted it as a switch that needs a little time in each position to engage, I started having way less trouble. So I agree with the advice to slow down your actions. Will be glad to see this device replaced, but pissed that I'll be stuck with it for a long time. My pet peeve on this truck.
On the one hand, the paddles are a pain when you're trying to turn and manually shift at the same time. It's also easy to bump them accidentally.
On the other hand, I like the idea of not having to take my hand off the wheel when shifting manually. I came from a manual transmission and am used to using my right hand to shift, but it's nice to not have to.
