Possible Warranty Telemarketing Scam

I saw an article on allpar about a possible scam involving telemarketing calls pretending to sell Chrysler factory warranties. I wanted to share this here since it could affect many owners and in fact I have received calls similar to this.

Article: €œChrysler Warranty:€ Possible Scam Calls € Allpar News

I received multiple missed calls from an odd number and finally answered to tell whoever it was to stop calling, the conversation went like this :The lady on the phone tried to convince me that my 2014 JGC (1 1/2 years old at the time) was currently out of warranty. I said how can a 2014 Jeep with a factory three year warranty be up already, she then said my mileage is way over the limit (at 11000 miles at the time) and when I questioned how she could tell my mileage so easily she hung up on me.

I was pretty sure this was a scam from the start and not a valid marketing offer because I bought a factory extended warranty during my vehicle purchase, which I would hope FCA would know about.

(If this is posted elsewhere here you can move/delete this).

I never buy anything from a cold caller. I don't need any help deciding what to spend my money on. Any telemarketer who calls me gets a "Take my phone number off your calling list" and then a dial tone.

Some of them only let it ring once, presuming you'd be curious enough to call back.

Anyone from Mopar would know a lot more about your vehicle... and possibly be aware of just how much some of us "truly love" telemarketers and robocallers.

Yep get those calls on occasion. They try to make themselves sound like Jeep reps a bit. I keep them on the line until they start cursing at me.... LOL There was an American Greed (on CNBC) episode on an extended "warranty" scam company, in Florida I think.

Re: Possible Warranty Telemarketing Scam

When I get any kind of solicitation call I immediately say, "We don't accept any phone solicitations at this number", and hang up. I get fewer and fewer calls all the time.

Florida is like the center of the scam universe. I almost bought an expensive camera from an online business there. I had a bad feeling during the checkout process, after having to talk to someone to complete the order. I checked them out via google, and there were all sorts of complaints about it being a scam. I immediately cancelled my order.

Re: Possible Warranty Telemarketing Scam

I get these bogus calls occasionally. Most don't even know what kind of vehicle you own. I simply tell them I'm interested in a warranty on a 1976 Starsky &Hutch edition Ford Torino with a slipping transmission and they hang up pretty quickly.

Problem is that the new breed is so robotic that messing with their minds when bored or ticked off at them just isn't amusing any more.

"Sir, I'd like to talk to you about your phone service"
[moi] I don't have a phone.
"Ummmmm, ok...... .... ......"

Re: Possible Warranty Telemarketing Scam

I have been receiving the post card mailers for the past 6 months telling me I need to call immediately that my warranty will expire soon or already has expired. My 2014 GC Summit just rolled 10,000 miles the week after it was a year old on June 15, 2015. I called the number yesterday to tell them to remove me from the list and they told me that I need to buy the warranty right away that mine has expired. I asked them if they knew how many miles I had on my vehicle and they told me that based on average use I had roughly 38,000 miles on my vehicle. I then asked them that if they new my mileage then they should also know that I have an extended Mopar 8yr/125,000 warranty. I was told that it was impossible for me that Mopar does not offer an extended warranty and that I was scammed if they sold me one that it will not cover anything that happens to my vehicle. I kindly told them they were full of B.S. and to remove me immediately. The call ended with them hanging up on me only to try and call me back 5 minutes later. The company was Guardian LLC based in Illinois.

Re: Possible Warranty Telemarketing Scam

If you even give them the time of day, they will be back.
