Re: POST 2014 V8 MPG's

I've done a lot of mpg monitoring in the year I have owned my summit and have concluded that it's great on the highway and terrible in the city. If your doing a lot of short trips in the city don't expect much over 13 mpg. The good thing about that is a tank will still last a long time so it won't hurt that much. I love the power and sound and if your going higher end trim level why not go v8? The highway mileage is pretty good for a big SUV and 21mpg is easily attainable. Driving 60mph will get you 1.5 mpg more on the highway but that speed feels so slow with our cabins and you will find yourself falling asleep!

Re: POST 2014 V8 MPG's

At minimum I'm getting the V8. I'm just doing my research as best i can to determime if i want to go the diesel route instead and mpg is a big factor patlrticularly in the city with the hemi. Thanks again for all of your feedback.

Re: POST 2014 V8 MPG's

I have automatic tracking all of my driving. This year overall I am at 16.6 mpg with the summit 4x4 V8. That is a lot of stop and go rush hour traffic. For highway trips I am 25-26 mpg.

Wow, 25-26 mpg with a 4x4 V8? That almost sounds too good to be true.

Ive got 25 before on trips also with highway only driving with the 4x4 V8. cruise control set at 65 keeps the MDS on a good bit of the time so your burning gas on 4 cylinders instead of 8. Does real well on flat or rolling hills cruising.

OK... 2011 V8 owner here, but still....

How the F are you getting an average hwy only of 25 MPG?

I don't believe that at all.

I've tried to drive my GC like a granny taking a nap... and struggled to pop 20.

POST 2014 V8 MPG's

Well if it makes any of you guys feel better i average 11.7 mpg .. I drive around manhattan in the worst times of traffic and i also do about a 70/30 city/hwy ratio.. Im up to my 7th fill up and i made the mistake of using 93 octane 3 times and learned the octane makes no difference.. So i have been using 89 shell for the other 4 times trying to ise only top tier fuel ( thanks to the information from another member) i use this app fuelly to monitor my fueling and distances.. Soooo yeah my driving style and conditions suck but i wouldnt have it any other way.. My 2004 jeep grand cherokee averaged the same thing so i dont think theyll be much improvement by the time the motor is fully broken in but who knows.. Its a 2015 5.7

Yeah, I do a reverse commute from the area and traffic will make any car deliver crappy fuel economy. I went from a 2006 Jeep Liberty with a 3.7L engine and the 2013 GC with a 5.7L gives me about the same mileage, sometimes BETTER mileage despite far better performance. Go figure.

For anyone that cares, mileage is basically a function for me of how much I sit in traffic. It can be as bad as 12 mpg or as good as 18 (note that I never do 100% traffic or 100% freeway, at least not yet anyway).

Yeah, I get 12 MPG too. It is what it is....I do wonder if I had the V6 if I'd be happy with it and what MPG I'd get.
