Potential New Owner - A Few Questions

Hey everyone. I've been lurking around and reading a bunch of the threads here - tons of information. I'm pretty leery of new vehicles because I've owned a couple of lemons over the last few years. Please assume I'm VERY impressed with the new JGC and I wouldn't be here if I wasn't. But I'm going to point out some of my concerns and get some advice from those of you that have owned one. I'm pretty OCD when it comes to cars, so please keep that in mind. I'm only interested in a Hemi Overland at this point.

About half of the JGCs I've been inside at the lot all had issues with the center console cubby hole. You press the button and it gets hung up on the plastic lip and won't open unless you press down on the console with the other hand. This is a little disconcerting and I wonder if there's gonna be other fitment issues that might pop up later.

Two of about a half dozen or so that I've sat in, the voice navigation didn't work properly. Every time I tried to enter a street destination it kept asking me for the city name, over and over and over. Really?

Regarding the intelligent cruise control (which seemed to work really well), can switch between radar and conventional CC? I did this once by accident (I think) and I couldn't duplicate it. I love radar cruise, but I want the ability to use regular non-radar as well. Every salesperson I've talked to doesn't know a thing about it and they keep the owner's manuals in an secret underground vault apparently. Yeah...I know...terrible dealership experience so far.

The SRT8 I drove had a very stiff suspension, which is a weird thing to hear me say because I have a supercharged Mustang with the Ford Racing suspension and tons of other suspension mods. I drove an Overland with 20" wheels and it was tons better but still a little stiff for my taste. Anyone here ever compare the ride quality with 18s vs 20s?

The seats seem quite hard. I'm not sure if that will be a problem down the road (LOL...sorry) but one thing I noticed right away is that when going over bumps in the road, where the seat bottom is separated by a seam, it feels as if the seat bottom (about where my thighs are) is moving and twisting in two separate directions, similar to how a car's chassis twists. It feels like the seat needs a subframe connector. It's a weird sensation, one I don't think I've experienced before. Anyone else notice this?

Overall, it's one fine automobile. I'm getting the feeling I should just wait for the 2014 models to come out and give them a try. I keep on hearing about a better 8-speed transmission, much improved infotainment and nav system, and even a diesel engine option.

I've had zero issues with my Summit, outside of a small rattle in the upper convenience lighting which was rectified immediately by my dealer. I like the ride, the handling, the feel of the suspension and the firmness of the seating. I'm even getting good fuel economy. (The MY14 will likely improve on that, too)

BTW, you can disable the ACC via the EVIC. I never do, however. I did find that I prefer the distance setting to be at "1" rather than the default "3", particularly in normal traffic. The ACC is the MY14 has some enhancements, too.

The problem with the door in the cubby will apparently be correct in the '14s. There is a PDF in the 2014 features thread. In one of the diagrams it points to the door and says improved for better fit. A small victory, but still something.:)

--- must be someone new on the production line, first I've heard of this.

--- The voice nav has a learning function, works better after you train it, especially if you have anything other than a Michigan accent. The Radio leaves a bit to be desired.. but the MY 2014 is a different beast.

-- its a rare salesman that understands this level of detail. You use the mode button to select cruise mode "To change modes, press the MODE button when the system is in either the OFF, READY, or SET position. “Cruise Ready” will be displayed if the system was in ACC READY or ACC SET position. “Cruise Off” will be displayed if the system was in the ACC OFF position. To switch back to Adaptive Cruise Control mode, press the MODE button a second time."

--- no significan difference on OEM overland tires except that the turnin response is less. You can purchase tires with softer sidewalls that may feel like riding on pillows, but handling goes.

--- mine doesn't do this, how heavy are you? The napa leather will soften up a bit. I think these are the most comfortable seats I've owned or rented. Some very thin here have had pressure point issues. But if you are not liking the seats, not much you can do about it, perhaps shop for something different.

The WK2 doesn't want you as it's owner. You require more maintenance than it does.

Took delivery of my 2011 Overland with Hemi two years ago, and not a single problem. Most Nav systems are a little disappointing. The cruise works in traditional speed-only mode or combined with the adaptive distance settings very nicel. The current transmission is a very good mate for the V-8 with the MDS and ERS. I too thought the seats were hard but no issue on long road trips.

If your experience is anything like mine the WK2 will put your other vehicles to shame, like it did to my supposedly luxurious Lexus sedan.
