Potential problem - suggest you check yours ...

I was under the rear end of my GC painting the rusty exhaust brackets and flanges yesterday. I found what could be a potential problem in the left rear corner.

There's a group of (white) wires in flexible black plastic wire wrap that run down from the left rear fender and along the rear bumper. I think they're the wires running to the trailer hitch connector.

I found the wires were touching the left muffler/resonator, and the heat from the exhaust had melted the black wire wrap at the touch point. Luckily the wire insulation looked okay. I repaired the damaged plastic wrap with electrical tape and moved the wires away from the exhaust using a plastic wire tie. I'm guessing the wire insulation could be damaged over time from the heat, causing a potential electrical short.

I suggest you check your GC's to see if you have the same issue and, if so, move the wires as far away from the exhaust as possible.

You should notify corporate so that a potential recall/tsb can be put out...

My tail lamp in the harness is not working as I found out yesterday. Blinkers and brake lights are a ok. I went to crawl under the car and my sunburn hurts to much on the gravel driveway so didn't get to take a look to make sure the harness was a ok. I'll have to take a look later to see if this is the possible cause of the issue.

Re: Potential problem - suggest you check yours ...

My wires were up and out of the way, but loose. I secured them with a plastic wire wrap.
What did you use to paint the flange and brackets with? Did you paint in place or did you disassemble?
thanks

Re: Potential problem - suggest you check yours ...

Found my trailer harness problem, the Mopar 7 pin/4 pin device that clicks into the receiver. The tail light is hot on the wire harness from the car and comes out dead on the 7 way and 4 way pin device thus the module must have some sort of defective. I popped it out and hopefully they will just give me a new one, I did my own diagnostic.. saved me from dropping it off and killing a day

Wires are out of the way of the exhaust as well by far

Re: Potential problem - suggest you check yours ...

Are you sure it is the trailer wiring ?
You may find they are for the rear foglight wiring that are not fitted on the US spec models.
