Well you know you can get a friends and family 1% under invoice price by joining tread lightly (don't wait till the last minute as there may be a waiting period). You can get invoice prices at WK2 jeeps.com or edmunds or kelly blue book. Over the years of buying chrysler products in the Boston area it is rare that you can beat that and then its under special circumstances. Not saying a better deal cant be done, but configuring the Jeep with an invoice of around your target, which is 36K I think, would be a realistic approach. Different options and packages have different margins, so its tuff to just do a percentage or flat rate.

For example (and ignoring tax/title/dealer fees), a 2013 limited 4x4 V6 has an invoice of $37,059 plus ~900 destination (~$37,900) perhaps a little rich for you.. but a nice Jeep. Deducting incentives makes it closer.. An X has a invoice of $33911 plus ~900 (~$34,800). That gives you about $1500 in option money to play with. A nav radio is $440, the nice E group package $672, power sunroof $797.. you get the idea? oh.. the hemi is a $1500 invoice option and you need at least an Laredo X model to get it, with the $1500 incentive that becomes a wash....

The suggestion of a Laredo X with nav and E group with the V8 seems to be right there for you. ~35900 minus $1000 incentives plus tax etc. (you should check my math) The MSRP for that would be about $39800 plus tax/title/fee. You should be able to get it for about $35000 plus tax, etc. Dealer fees can be $300-$500 by the way.

The plus or minus from your negotiations, is money for a vacation...

You may be able to find left over 2012s on dealer lots for more savings.

Re: Potential purchase questions 2013 model

Excellent advice, and currently am just looking... For me, yea definitely too rich for my blood. LOL just got a 2013 Dodge Charger Superbee and pulling another payment for myself would mean buying a tent for the end of the GC and perma-camping in the woods.

My wife on the other hand is suffereng a bit from sticker shock. She had purchased a new vehicle back in 2006 and 2000 and she was thinking she could get a nice 4x4 SuV for under 30k, Least I have her at 36k atm... plus her trade which I think is about 7500 or so... which I am holding back that until I get deal negoiated overall.I also believe after seeing them today I am going to have my work cut out for me as she is leaning towards a Limited model moreso than the Laredo. When she gets more ready to buy, I have already told her she has to drive both the V6 and the 5.7 hemi, though I am confident she will want the Hemi as she has done nothing but complain about the lack of power these past several years.... anyhow I am rambling. I will follow up things as I get more details from dealers and what prices they are willing to give me and once I go to the actual dealers to haggle.

Oh as an aside she really liked the look of the trailhawk, but hated the sticker at 47k... I am sure many can relate to the comments she made about that.... lol

again thanks for the great tips and advice... gotta love the forums.

Re: Potential purchase questions 2013 model

My spouse is relatively simple, she buys by color and size, everything else make/model/price is irrelevant... its a transportation appliance.. well she is relatively price aware.

Re: Potential purchase questions 2013 model

Got a few prices

1) Trailhawk MSRP $47,075 E-Price $41,057 (includes 995 fee, 500 bonus cash and 1500 for V8)
2) Limited MSRP $43,275 E-Price $37,836 (Includes 995 fee, 500 bonus cash, and 1500 for V8)
3)Limited MSRP $42,810 E-Price $34,952 Not sure what is included with the price as in it may be a BS get you in the door price if you qualify etc....

For 1) and 2) I know I can get the prices down a bit more once I go into the dealership. This would be the 3rd vehicle purchased from them in past 10 months, so I am assuming return business is worth something to them and they are really aggressive on making deals.

You don't need the Trailhawk package based on her drive.

They should be giving 2013s away right now. Don't settle for for just 1% below invoice.

Jeep just buys back the left overs, although I'm sure some dealers would want to make just a bit of money and make more quota instead of nothing. You will need to be lucky or in a rare circumstance to get more than 2% below official invoice regardless. If there are "secret" dealer incentives on a particular vehicle, perhaps 3-4%. 1% under invoice barely covers their expenses.

Now if you special order a 2014, at least one dealer is offering 4% under invoice if you are also friend and family and delivered in Colorado.

Re: Potential purchase questions 2013 model

See that's just not true. I could have gotten a brand new limited v8 for 14% off MSRP. I had it in writing but decided to wait for the 2014s to decide. Sticker on the truck - $42k. Offered for $35.9k. No trades or anything. I'm sure I could have eeked out another few hundred without too much trouble.

Your talking MSRP and I'm talking invoice, apples and oranges.

That $42K MSRP limited has a $36K invoice price when incentives are included, so the deal they offered is the same deal you would currently get by just walking in the door with a F&F code ... that 14% off MSRP just gets you to the invoice including incentives. The dealer still has some profit in the hold back, but usually its like pulling teeth to get it (an if the dealer wants to stay in a viable business, he won't let you have it very often). And then most inflate the dealer admin fee (they usually don't tell you about this std fee until after you think you are finished negotiating and listing things like tax and title).

We were talking about below invoice deals. 2% below would have brought the offered price to ~$35K, which several dealers have been known to offer on a vehicle they have to move.

Look at the sticker as smoke that obscures the real deal.

I hate it when there is a failure to communicate...

Re: Potential purchase questions 2013 model

I didn't check the invoice pricing but so I didn't realize it would be that big a difference between MSRP and invoice. Good to know.

Re: Potential purchase questions 2013 model

It seems that big a difference because Jeep has been giving $2500 in incentives on V8s, which the dealer counted toward the offer. Common practice, fine print will say all incentives/rebates to dealer.

So, for reference if you want to apply incentives across the board, a current MSRP like number for the $42K vehicle is like $39500, an invoice like number is 36K. Not that much of a difference when comparing apples to apples.

In other words, without the current incentives the dealer would have offered ~$38.5K which is not bad as its right about invoice.

Lots of smoke and mirrors car shopping, dealers have plenty of marketing tools to separate as much money they can from you and still make you feel you got a great deal. Lots of these internet deals will be price a $42K MSRP vehicle at $32K and in the fine print is with $5000 of your money in trade or down payment. They make a tidy $1000 extra profit, but it really sounds like a great deal.
