Premium fuel

We recently bought a '13 GC w/ Hemi and looking through the manual, it actually says they recommend 91 octane or higher. I searched threads here and read that you should go no higher than 89... It's on page 124 of the manual from the Jeep website. Costco by us only sells 87 or 93 and for the first few tanks we've been putting 93 in. Anyone else care to weigh in?

Re: Premium fuel

The only manual I see that states 91 octane is for the SRT8. I checked the 2013 and 2014 manuals on the website at the link below and they both say 89 recommended, 87 ok.

Re: Premium fuel

The manual says it for the 3.6L and 5.7L... typo here as the manual does say SRT but of course it has neither of those engines...

Re: Premium fuel

The engine might explode if you put 93 octane. A couple of tanks you say ? Not good brother. Look for muffler bearings to go out first due to increased detonation.

Hard to tell if you are being sarcastic.

I have been running 93 in my 05 HEMI since 2004. No problems at all.

Lol yeah here too. Anytime someone says muffler bearings I'm pretty sure their joking around. BTW Lucas J, using 93 octane in your Hemi has been nothing but a huge waste of money and improper fuel for that vehicle...just an FYI

The 5th edition of the 2013 owner's manual (OM) states 87 for the V6 and 89 for the Hemi.

The 4th edition of the user's guide (UG) still has 91 listed for both the V6 and Hemi. Both the 2012 OM/UG had 87 for the V6 and 89 for the Hemi. Based upon the previous OM/UG for the 2012 models, that was a copy/paste mistake in the 2013 UG. You can always confirm with the dealer.

You needed to mention the left handed sky hook to really get your point across.

Re: Premium fuel

One solution would be to pump half 87 and half 93, that should wind up about right.

Back in the aulden daze we use to bump the timing a few degrees when running premium to compensate for the slower burning. Today you have to rely on the computer to compensate or change the programming to bump the advance maps.

To be able to run E85, a V6 must have enough meat in the maps for 93 but that may not be true for the hemi. If running a tuner, the programmer should know what needs to de changed if not detected automagically.
