Problems with new Pentastar engine??

Found this post on another website. I'm not computer savy so it's been edited as best I could to protect the posters. The post are from last month with the last post dated 3/18. I only posted the last few post, but the original poster was asking why the delays in shipping.

I call BS...all 3 of mine went I to JS status...must be a quality control issue. Now they are all KZ...awaiting on the shortage of rails.....

I would say Quality issue. Just doing my homework for Closed Chrysler Sales and they are starting to pop up with MOTOR REPLACEMENTS. I have bought a couple already myself like that with only 30 miles on them. And plan to buy more this week.

Whoa, are you talking about engine failures in the 2011 Grand Cherokee? I hadn't heard anything about that. If it was the GC, were the failed engines the 3.6 Pentastar or the 5.7 Hemi?

I'm guessing with only 30 miles on them the vehicles at the auction were never retail deliveries?

They are the 3.6 Pentastar still on M.C.O. must sign disclosure. Warranty is still good for everything.

Thanks for the update.

The fact the '11 Grand Cherokees are still new and were never delivered is good news - maybe Chrysler just had a casting issue with a few of the Pentastar engines and they caught them before they shipped the vehicles. That's a much better scenario than a series of low mileage failures like the old A-604 fiasco.

Any idea how many vehicles were talking about? Were they being sold at auctions near the Jeffereson Assembly Plant, or at other locations?

Regardless, I bet they're great vehicles to have in inventory. It's always nice to have a "switch vehicle" for a customer who can't quite qualify for a new car or someone who is looking for a really low price on a new car and isn't concerned about the engine replacement.

Re: Problems with new Pentastar engine??

Nothing really earth shattering there. Every manufacturer has vehicles that don't pass QC or end up with a defective part that get pulled, fixed and sold at auction if the fix doesn't cause a safety issue. Not surprising there would be a few in a brand new engine/vehicle combo.

Kinda Unrelated but I always wondered what Chrysler does with the early prototype Jeeps used in the Car Shows to promote the new model and even the test Mules that hit the rubicion.

Are they even givin vin numbers?

Re: Problems with new Pentastar engine??

There doesn't seem to be any endemic issues with the Pentastar, if that's what you're wondering about. It sure looks to be solid.

As for potential early production issues, there were rumors that they were having casting problems that hurt the rate of production (this past summer it sure looked like the Hemi models were being built faster than the Pentastar ones), but they caught those before they were actually installed into vehicles.

Re: Problems with new Pentastar engine??

There actually was a small number of 3.6 engines with problems.I don't know the exact number, but it wasn't a lot. This was late last year. There was something wrong with the cam towers is all we were told.I replaced 1 engine in a brand new Jeep last December.Whatever was wrong was not obvious, but we got a call from Chrysler about a specific vehicle. They said not to sell it,they were sending an engine. After that they took the jeep and from there it went to auction. That's what I think that post is about.

Re: Problems with new Pentastar engine??

If the original poster never has driven a new Jeep Grand Cherokee, or if they're bitching about something they heard about on the internet, they are a troll.

I like the guy on this site (or may have been the jeep forums site) that kept droning on about how he was going to "wait" for the '12 models to come out since the first year introduction sucked.

NO TROLL HERE!!! The WK2 will be my fourth GC... How many have you had?? I've driven 8 different WK2 (V6/V8s) before I decided what I wanted before ordering mine. My jeep is built but is stuck in "Carrier Hold" so with any luck I'll have it by the end of the Summer.

Here's a link to the other forum where I found the info for the original post....read it for yourself.

Not you Wilco. Just browse through the other site, it's obvious.

Jeez, some of you are so friggin' sensitive.
