Protecting the rear bumper from dog claws

Anyone out there have any suggestions for something that will protect the paint on the rear bumper from my dogs' nails as they jump into the cargo area? I'm currently picking up my 75lbs German Shepherd and 90lbs rottie, but... yeah... I don't want to keep doing that, and they don't really seem to enjoy it either. Something like a rubber mat that can be pulled down over the bumper when the rear door's open and then rolled back up to close it?

Secondary: how about a product that covers up the exposed plastic and carpet in the cargo area, including the back of the seats and the sides of the cargo area. I've got the Mopar cargo area protector on order, but I still need to figure out how to cover up the plastic and carpet up to window level if possible. Black carpet + German Shepherd == not very black carpet. :-D

Reigniting this thread. Has anyone found a dog cover/ mat that will fill up the entire back cargo area of the jeep? does anyone have the dimensions of the back cargo area and i'll try to find one on orvis.com or somewhere similar?

Typing this on my iPad while sitting in my WK2 as I wait for my partner to finish up baseball practice, so excuse typos or weird links. :-D

There is a decent cargo liner listed above in this thread that fits the 2010 Grand Cherokee and is very well made-- and almost $400. I haven't heard back if they have a 2011 version on the way (but I can only assume they do).

Still.... $400. That's insane.

What I've done for now, and it works surprisingly well, is use the MOPAR cargo mat (the rubber slush mat, around $80, I think). I found a place on Amazon that sells black moving blankets for around $20. That, plus some Velcro Fusion (iron on Velcro; it fuses to the fabric and doesn't come off --- hard to find in stores, but Amazon has it) makes an excellent dog cover. The Velcro (the hook side) holds it onto the sidewalls and setbacks well; there is more than enough to overlap the bumper and exposed painted plastic bits that Jeep should have never left exposed on a cargo area.

The cargo blanket is moderately water resistant and is machine washable (first use, my dogs barfed all over it - nothing got on the carpet, and my front loader did a great job on it; no fading even on the super hot sanitize cycle). I'm counting on the MOPAR liner to actually catch any liquids.

It's not beautiful... But it's also not $400...and the black blanket looks like it belongs in my Summit. It doesn't look trashy when its folded up.

Second benefit; the blanket is nice to have in case you need to transport something that might get damaged. It, the metal argo tiedown hooks, and a few bungles that you should store in the wheel wells works very well.

You can get the blankets in single, four, or dozen packs.

I think I'm still going to order the clear plastic bumper film (also in this thread) to be safe.

This is such a weird thing for me; my TJ was completely scratched up and had all sorts of stains and interior damage from my dogs... I am so paranoid about scratching up or messing up the WK2. LOL. Ah well. At least I'm not embarrassed to go on a date in it or let a valet park this thing.... :)

I'll get this and give it a try. I have a golden retriever and his blond hair gets everwhere, especially in summer. i have the quadralift so i can lower it when he jumps in and out so i'm not too concerned about the bumper. on my denali, i had to pick him up from the back while he put is paws on the rear plastic. there wasnt too much scratching so i hope this will be the same. thanks for the info, great write up.

For the Cargo area, I bought the mopar/jeep rubberized mat. My 2 cocker spaniels ride in metal show dog crates, so it was the best solution for me.

I am thinking about getting the 3m bra installed on the front and maybe something similar for the bumper to protect against dog nails.
