Re: Push Button Start - 2014 JGC

Yeah, RFID replaces the real key. RFID doesn't use an internal power source, so it won't die.

Maybe if you took the key out of the fob to a locksmith they could reproduce it on a full size key that you could use to open the door and glovebox.

You still can't use it to start the car, cause there ain't no hole to stick it in.

Why do you want a 'regular' key?

Got a full size key made for my previous 2012 and my current Summit from Home Depot. I carry it in my wallet so at least it can unlock the drivers door if need be.

Bob,

Isn't that what the key that slips out of the fob is for?

Maybe I'm missing something.

I know. I just have it in case I lock the FOB in the vehicle for some reason. And I know that the doors will not lock if the FOB is in the vehicle, but with all the gremlins running around the 2014's, I can't trust it to work properly.

Re: Push Button Start - 2014 JGC

I used to keep a spare fob wrapped in several layers of aluminum foil, hidden underneath some carpeting or somewhere else not likely found, as well as an actual key taped up under the car. Had my bases covered. The thought of losing my fob while on vacation was quite bothersome.

Although I've seen people stop their vehicles and get out, not only forgetting to shut them off, but forgetting to take them out of gear, and watch a driverless car motor down the street until it crashed into something. Maybe there needs to be a fail safe in vehicles so they shut down if no one is in the drivers seat. That would be just about completely idiot proof, but a real pain in the butt for everyone else.
The only thing I want to add... If I started it, I wanted it to run and I will decide when I want to turn it off. I leave my dogs in the car and I want them to be cool not have a vehicle decide when it should turn off....

Agree with you Jacko, if I left my keys in the car and running then I would be really stupid because then someone has the keys to my truck.

Actually, you can lock the vehicle with the fob inside... I did just that unintentionally when playing wit the uconnect phone app. I did not check to see if I could just pull the handle to unlock, but the fob being inside I think disables passive entry.

You can lock the fob inside by trying to lock it four times. The fourth time will work, it's programmed that way. When I picked up my new car the dealer explained that and added when they go to beach they can take the metal key and lock the fob in the car. That way no danger of getting the fob electrics wet.

Re: Push Button Start - 2014 JGC

YEP - all those reasons. but how do you lock the key INSIDE by clicking the locker 4 times? Wouldn't you have to be inside and therefore locking yourself IN?? Gotta be a Blonde joke there huh LOLOL
