What in God's name does one do if it happens at night after the dealership closes???? I mean, do you just wait for it to run out of gas? That is an absolutely horrible horrible design for myriad reasons.

You bend a hook onto a piece of wire and fish for it. When you get it close enough to the hole you press the button with a pen or pencil.

Re: Push Start Fell Inside Dash

Its a horrible design and it only has 16000 miles on it. It started to happen last night and i could still reach the button but this morning when I went to grab some groceries it fell all the way in. They had to take apart the whole dash to turn it off so I am pretty sure hooking the wires and pushing the button wasn't an option.

What year are we in???? Am I living in bizarro world?? To think a car company could implement a such a faulty design, one that they had to have known was prone to fail and not have a contingency built in is shocking.

Any pics of how it looks? Off the dash and when dealer removed it.

Re: Push Start Fell Inside Dash

I'm between Jeeps right now so I couldn't check this. I wonder if after starting the car normally if you could turn it off with the remote?

turning it off with the remote after normal starting doesn't work but you could yank a fuse to the fuel injectors or fuel pump, no fuel should take it down pretty quick. fuse on the main computer would probably work also but id probably go with depriving it of fuel first rather than risk maybe zapping the main computer

Put the gear selector in Park and remove the fuel pump fuse in the Power Distribution Center under the hood. After the engine dies, go have a beer. The ignition should turn itself off after a 30 minute timeout.
Anybody willing to verify this?

That is ridiculous.... you should not have to resort to that. Pulling fuses???? What is this, 1972?

Or press the buttons on the mirror and ask whoever picks up to remotely turn off the engine.
