Qd ii /qt ii

Hi All,

I am unsure about something and hoping that you are able to help me out. Could some one please let me know how i would know if i have QDII or QTII? I have a 2011 JGC v8 hemi with QD lift. I am actually not sure what the difference is between Quadra Drive and Quadra Trac.

Thanks in advance.

Paul

Quadra-Trac II

Quadra-Trac II was introduced in 1999 and it employs a two-speed chain-driven transfer case featuring three modes of operation, "4-All Time", "N" or neutral, and "4-Lo". In "4-All Time", torque is applied to the rear wheels under normal driving conditions. If the rear axle starts rotating at a significantly higher rate than the front axle, hydraulic pressure builds up in the gerotor and causes the clutch pack to progressively transfer torque to the front axle until both axles return to the same speed. "N" or neutral mode is intended for towing the vehicle. In "4-Lo", the front and rear axles are locked together through a 2.72 gear reduction ratio. In 2005 Jeep added its Brake Traction Control System and replaced the New Venture Gear NV247 transfer case with the NV245 transfer case.
Applications:
1999–Present Jeep Grand Cherokee
2006-2009 Jeep Commander
[edit]Quadra-Trac I
Quadra-Trac I was introduced in 2004 and works similar to the Quadra-Trac II system, but eliminates the "4 Lo" and "N" or neutral modes. By excluding these modes it creates a system that requires no driver input.[9] In 2005 Jeep added its Brake Traction Control System and replaced the New Venture Gear NV147 transfer case[5] with the NV140 tranfser case.
Applications:
2004–present Jeep Grand Cherokee
2006-2010 Jeep Commander
[edit]Quadra-Drive

The Quadra-Drive system was introduced in 1999 and is based on the Quadra-Trac II system but adds limited slip differentials to the front and rear axles to create a four-wheel drive system capable of not only directing torque to the axle with best traction but to the individual wheel on an axle with best traction.
[edit]Quadra-Drive
Quadra-Drive uses the New Venture Gear NV247 transfer case mated to front and rear axles containing Jeep's Vari-Lok which are gerotor style limited slip differentials. Applications:
1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
[edit]Quadra-Drive II
Quadra-Drive II uses the New Venture Gear NV245 transfer case mated to front and rear axles containing electronic limited slip differentials or ELSDs. Jeep's Brake Traction Control System was added in 2005 and starting in 2011 only a rear ELSD is offered, while the front has an open differential.
Applications:
2005–Present Jeep Grand Cherokee
2006-2010 Jeep Commander
[edit]Brake Traction Control System

Brake Traction Control System or BTCS is a traction control system that uses the vehicle brake system to redirect torque from a slipping wheel or wheels to the wheel or wheels with the most amount of traction.

Re: Qd ii /qt ii

I have a v8 with QT2 and think it works well. I have yet to get it stuck when even my old 95 YJ with a 4 inch lift and BFG AT's got stuck. In low range when trying to pull out a tree, I got all 4 tires to spin on my dry driveway so the AWD system works perfect.

I think QD2 may go a little farther offroad without going into 4-lo but both systems are damn good.

Re: Qd ii /qt ii

I had QD II before and wanted to make sure my new GC had it as well. I ordered a Hemi Limited with ORA II package, that is how I got QD II. As soon as I start my Jeep up Quadradrive II is displayed on the EVIC.

I think I got it (ELSD or QDII) by getting a V8 Overland 4x4

When you start the car you will see "quadradrive" in the EVIC area. Otherwise you don't have it.

For most of 2011, QD was standard on V8 Overlands and Summits and not available on other models. Some early 2011 V8 may have had QD but QD was also a late arrival. QD became part of the V8 ORA II package in 2012 and 2013 but still remained standard on Summits.

In the WK2 application, QD is QuadraTrac II plus a ELSD rear diff.

Re: Qd ii /qt ii

Hi All,

Wow, what a great response!!! Many thanks to all.

If could please summise what is written so i understand it correctly -

Quadra trac II is a registered trade mark that purely is a name for their transfer case. It is a hydrolic case for front to rear power/tourque transfer. This has a 4WD Lo and Nuetral position. It is available from 1999 until QT II came out.

Quadra trac I is a registered trade mark that purely is a name for their hydrolic transfer case. This does not have a $wd Lo nor does it have a neutral position. This is on all JGC from 2005 onwards.

Quadra drive II is the same as above but has a front and rear open LSD.

Quadra Drive II ESLD is the same as above but does not have an open front and rear LSD but has an open front LSD and an electronic LSD.

So, have i got this right?????

I have not seen the Quadra Drive come up on the middle HIVAC. How would i know if i have QT I or II or have the electronic braked traction control?

Thanks once again to all!!!!!!
Paul

qt1 - basically just your average AWD system. Transfers power to the axle with the most traction.

Don't think so.

Perhaps look at the Jeep page for a description of the current systems. The systems have changed over the years but the names have remained. None of the WK2 systems use hydraulics, they are all completely electric now.
