Completely untrue. Sorry, but I have to say it. If you ever get the chance try stopping with the stock tires, then try again with snows. Not even close.

And I'm a "seasoned Winter driver" if there ever was one. Been driving in it since I started driving and I'm not young anymore. Can I drive without snows? Yes, but most vehicles, my new Jeep likely included, would NEVER make it up my driveway in heavy wet snow w/o snow tires. Wanna go down that hill and turn the corner with summer or all weather tires? I don't think so!

If you live in flat terrain and never have to make an unexpected stop or turn, you'll probably survive with stock tires. Otherwise do us all a favor and get snows! (Not that you'll listen to me!)

Not in the context of this discussion it isn't.

Re: Quadra-Drive II vs Quadra-Track II

I remember my first time getting caught driving from a section of dry highway onto a section that had been hit with some light but very slick ice. I just didn't see it coming until I was in the middle of it. Not a good feeling.

Those kinds of things really make me appreciate the driver aids built into these new vehicles.

Re: Quadra-Drive II vs Quadra-Track II

Since nobody wants to go back to the original debate QT II vs QD II, I will make a final attempt. Save your money if the V6 meets your lifestyle needs by not buying the diesel or the V8, and just get dedicated set(s) of tires for off-road and/or winter driving. Your QT II will be more than adequate. It is spectacular.

I really think that all these people swearing by QD II as being so superior are probably smoking something not legal in all 48. I fully support the statement that it is a better drivetrain but unless you are driving at the edge of traction, at the limit of grip...in off-camber situations where you might find yourself with 2-3 wheels slipping (e.g. rock climbing) you will never really know how much better QD II is.

Re: Quadra-Drive II vs Quadra-Track II

From my experience both systems work exceptionally well. Is the QDII system better? Yes it is. Is the QDII system that much better to get the v8? I don't think so, and I have QDII.

It all depends what you use your jeep for. I can tell you from experience that having a better 4x4 system, including tires, is important. While launching and landing a boat on a steep slippery ramp both how quick the system responds and the tires make a difference.

Is QTII better in snow? I personally think it is a draw. The biggest draw back of the QDII system is the tendency of the rear wheels going to full lock and the rear end kicking out. That is why, in my opinion, the system needs to be quicker so that the front end can engage/lock to pull you out of the situation. The QTII system won't kick the rear end out as quick due to the lack of the ELSD.

Hope that helps

Re: Quadra-Drive II vs Quadra-Track II

Thank you everyone for all the great input, I really appreciate it. I think I will probably go with the V6 and QT-II, unless of course I test drive the HEMI and get addicted to the extra power.

Now I'm just going to wait for the 2015 models to show up in September. From what I have read in the 2015 thread, it doesn't sound like there will be any changes to the Overland, but I assume there will be some tweaks to fix minor bugs. Or, I assume there will be some incentives coming to clear out the remaining 2014's.

Out of curiosity is it a given that if u get the hemi and 4x4 u have quadra drive? I don't see that on the jeep website anywhere.

As far as snow tires, it is a personal preference. I live in Minnesota, and had my Jeep out in storms with 15+" of snow this past winter with stock tires, and had no problems. I NEVER get snow tires, and have not had problems. It is usually the driver, and not the tires that have the problem in snow. If it makes you feel better, get snow tires, but to seasoned winter drivers, the stock tires that come with your Jeep work just fine.
While I will agree with most of what you said the stock tires that come on these jeeps are horrible on anything but dry pavement. I will take something like a Wrangler silentarmor tire or a BF Goodrich all terrain anyday and be just fine though.

No, I believe you have to also have to have the Off Road Adventure II package to get QD

This.

I have a 2012 Altitude with the QT-II and Nitto Terra Grappler tires. I take it off road here in Colorado and it handles everything with ease. Now I'm not rock climbing or anything, but QD-II isn't going to help with that anyway (clearance, flex, etc.).
