Quadra lift question

I understand the benefits of the quadra lift suspension for off road use but are there any significant benefits for normal highway driving? The aero mode seems somewhat of a benefit but at the expense of a potentially high maintenance air compressor. Was wondering if the quadra lift improves handling or has other benefits for highway use. I am interested in buying a Summit because of the great interior but wondering if I should get the Limited without quadra lift since it will be used for all highway miles.

FWIW, my brother has a Ram 1500 with virtually the same air suspension, and he loves the ride. It's a much smoother and nicer ride than the other 1/2 ton trucks he's owned (F150, Titan). Also, with my limited time on this forum, I haven't really seen any negative comments about maintenance issues or any other problems with the QL system. It's been around for a number of years now, so it's probably a pretty reliable system. For me, it was a no-brainer to choose the Summit for the most options. I'm looking forward to having an air suspension!

Some folks prefer the ride that QL provides...and I'm one of them.

Considering a Summit or a Limited? Lol that's a pretty big difference.

Not sure where you're located but if you get a 4x2 Overland or Summit, it does not come with air suspension. So if you decide you don't want QL and don't need 4x4 but still want the Summit, there's that option.

I've had 3 WK2s. One without QL, and 2 with. It's never given me any issues out of 65k miles total. But I suppose that's not much for long term.

There are some circumstances that the QL tends to be a bit jittery compared to standard springs, but that's my opinion. Overall I still like the air suspension better and it's a neat feature.

I believe that the air suspension does absolutely nothing for cornering, if anything it makes it worse. But you're in a 5k lb + SUV, if you're cornering that hard you're probably going to end up with some uneven wear on your tires that I'd be more concerned with. I'm 23, I definitely have a lead foot and no issue with QL. But it's not an adaptive suspension so there are no benefits to handling. (Prime example, new Volvo XC90 is available with adaptive air suspension.)

Re: reliability.
I do not know who makes the air suspension FCA uses in the Grand Cherokee. However problems have decreased significantly in past couple of years. Remember, air suspension is not new. It has been used, in one form or another, for over 100 years in USA.

we own two Grand Cherokees...a 2015 limited with springs and a 2013 Overland with quadra lift.
Of the two, I much prefer the limited with springs....the ride is comfortable with a lot less "rock and roll" than the overland.
My next Jeep will be the Limited with the wonderful 8" Navigation system, no air suspension, factory towing package and the Hemi....best combo for me....

The only advantage I see to the Quadra Lift is that when towing 4,000+ pounds, the air system does level the vehicle when it detects that the back is lower than the front due to a load. Otherwise, I see no benefit from a complicated and expensive system....just my opinion, folks!!

QL is a Bosch system and they supply the majority of air suspensions used on the planet.

We do a lot of towing (a Travel Trailer) and the QL really does help a lot. We both like the ride a lot, with or without the trailer.

FYI - We did have one issue with our QL pump, which threw a warning on the EVIC (service air suspension) and they replaced it under warranty at 26K miles no questions asked. However, I believe the warning was due to the hitch ball being stuck on the trailer coupling and when we operated the electric tongue jack on our trailer (to lift it off the ball) it actually raised the back wheels of the Jeep up almost off the floor!

Otherwise, it operated flawlessly.....

I have a 2015 Summit with quadra lift and the entry height makes it easy for entry. It will also automatically level your vehicle if towing. But I am curious if it could be used as an auxiliary air supply if you had a low tire. Has anybody tried this type of mod?

No, it can't be used that way because it is a closed system unlike the Range Rover which pumps air in and out of the system. I also believes it uses nitrogen in the system rather than just plain air. Converting it to an open system would entail manufacturing custom pumps and probably still wouldn't be compatible with the existing setup, making it totally cost prohibitive.
