Coldcase, just a little deviation from the main question but in regards to Q1 and q2 and any other deviations for the wk2..

Would the more simplistic q1 deliver more reliability and less quirkiness for everyday driving? Which system do you think would be a better system for smoothness and strength of its entire parts if one where to put more HP against it like modding the hemi.

If I'm getting away from my defective ql overland summit with its quadra whatever... I am debating whether or not to take a Laredo with qt1 or go to an x with the hemi and getting into q1 or 2..

Any input ?

Re: Quadra Trac 1 situation/capabilities

They are using the QT2 system in the STR8 with some tweaks. That may be an indication of what case can handle more power, or maybe not.

QT1 is simpler, basically a differential and a chain. The QT2 has many more components (clutches, electric motor, planetary gear set, chain) as well as software. The clutches can wear, the fluid can be contaminated. QD adds a limited slip rear end to the QT2 system.

I don't know the rated torque for either case. QT1 may be simpler but made of smaller components, so I dunno.

If you have enough HP to spin the tires. the QT2 system will put more power to the pavement. So the QT2 would likely be quicker, similar to using a limited slip diff in rear wheel drive cars. The QT2 is heavier, however.

QT1 will be smoother until the point where you start spinning tires, at that point QT2 will be smoother. In everyday routine driving on dry roads, QT1 is smoother. You may hear the transfer case dif whir on turns, however.

Re: Quadra Trac 1 situation/capabilities

It is not possible to get the HEMI with Quadra Trac 1. Getting the HEMI means you get at least Quadra Trac 2 (or Quadra Drive depending on other options or trim level).

Re: Quadra Trac 1 situation/capabilities

I should note that the QT2 system used in the STR8 (MP3010) does not have the low range gear set.. It does have the clutch pack, however. Dunno if thats for power handling or just they don't thing SRT8 owners do serious off road stuff.

Re: Quadra Trac 1 situation/capabilities

I used to have a plain jane regular Cherokee years ago as a work vehicle and I do alot of off roading for my job. I am pretty sure it was the base 4 wheel drive for that model year (1999) and man that thing would go anywhere I had the courage to take it. I did get stuck some but I do in every work truck I have had but of course my company is kind enough to give me a winch on the front and a second winch to put on the trailer hitch when I really get into some bad situations. I got the QT2 in my Laredo but do I really need it, probably not but it was the only 4wd Laredo in a 2 hour radius of my house with the sunroof so that is what I took home.

Re: Quadra Trac 1 situation/capabilities

I'm also curious in peoples experiences with QT1. I have the QT1 system and plan on taking my WK2 down to OBX in less than a month and I'm thinking as long as I air down I'll be ok however I also don't have tow hooks or a trailer hitch so I am a little bit nervous.

Re: Quadra Trac 1 situation/capabilities

I think you probably should be fine as long as you air down and take it easy. I would strongly suggest you purchase the tow hooks. They are not hard to put on because the holes for the bolts are already there. You will have to cut out the place for them on the front bumper but the back hangs below the bumper. I think there are a couple of threads on here of people putting them on with pics.

Re: Quadra Trac 1 situation/capabilities

I would also go ahead a buy a shovel that you can bring with you just to be safe. It has been so hot and dry down there the sand is a lot softer then usual. Or you can pick up a set of offroad folding traction mats / plates for like $25. The work great in the sand.

Re: Quadra Trac 1 situation/capabilities

Pardon my ignorance as I am a newbie when it come to beach driving, but an earlier post stated "Personally I use mud/snow and in 4-low while aired down to 20 psi in the tires." Why would you need (or want) to use 4-low in the sand? Thanks!

Re: Quadra Trac 1 situation/capabilities

I'd also have to take off the front bumper so its not as easy as cutting a hole and bolting them on. I've thought of getting them though I will admit.
