So what happens with your union membership after you are fired for something like this? Does it get revoked? Or you keep it and after slap on the wrist get another union position a month later? If you don't want to/can't answer I will understand.

I can't answer because I don't know.

I'll see what happens in this case.

My family goes to work, do what we're supposed to do right, then we home. That's how we work.

UAW/Employee/Company relationship is no longer what it used to be. I have plenty of autoworkers in my family, I'm one too.... and I don't see any of this stuff. Heck, I remember a day when I used to hear stories about management being "afraid" of the Union People. Now? They have lunch together.

Oh and by the way

OT is calculated as over 40 hours per week, time and a half.

NOT Over 8 hours, time and a half.

Things have seriously changed since 1998 dude.

I'm sorry, Marlon, but I absolutely cannot believe this. No offense, but there is no way things have changed THAT much. Nope.

Just telling you what I see at work every day.

I have no reason to lie about it, all I get is the "little" paycheck so I'm dang sure not drinking the Union / Chrysler Kool-Aid.

Now, back to sleep so I can work today and watch more people get fired.

I hope that's true. It'd be great!

Marlon, let it go.

SOTI had his own experience, and feels that what he experienced must be the way it is for everyone! 8 years in hell? That's just a little suckle on the teat. And 2006? The industry changed overnight SOTI! 2006 is a generation ago.

It doesn't take much to realize a LOT has changed in the last two years alone. GM, Chrysler, and Ford have all changed their game.

I once knew someone who "recently" made nearly $30 an hour sweeping and cleaning floors, with only a couple years on the job. Those days are over! There are people waiting in line to take the next available job, and earning much less than $30 an hour.

For those asking about Quality Control...
One of the major changes that has happened in recent years is "Sight Managed" Quality Control (The name is different depending upon where you are at). Meaning, a lot of QC is happening on the line.

This has both positives and negatives. The major plus is for the consumer, because you’re receiving better quality control as the transmission is made, the hood is stamped, and then when the vehicle is built. The negative is really for the worker. Especially for those who care about building a quality product. Why? Because someone is constantly looking over your shoulder. It can be maddening!

I can't speak about Jefferson North but I’m guessing the QC is somewhat cursory once the vehicle is built. Yeah, you probably have the water test (check for leaks), connector test (battery, fuses, hoses, etc.), and body inspection (dings, nicks, scrapes, lights, signals, etc.). There is probably a little more, but I would be surprised by much more. At best guess... I'm thinking a GC comes off the line every minute. Meaning, they are producing just over 900 new vehicles a day (2 shifts).

I would LOVE to hear what is being done at JNAP.

But folks, think about it! One to two hours of repairs by the dealer billed back to the manufacturer… over stopping the line for five minutes… Do the math. Oh, and stopping the line is no small issue!!! (just consider safety alone when you re-start)

SOTI, I’m not trying to discredit you, but seriously… things have really changed. GM, Chrysler, and Ford have been given a new lease on life. What have we really heard from the UAW in the last year? Right! Whether we like it or not, the rules of the game changed so quickly that everyone is reeling. Will things move back toward center? Yeah, I’m guessing some… but for now, EVERYONE is playing the game. Corporate, Union,… and yes, the Hourly Worker.

Oh, and a special nod (I'd buy you a beer if I could) to the hourly worker who is hopefully wanting to drive home a new WK2 that they just helped build!!!

No joke, I must end this now... and head out to buy some milk in my new Blackberry WK2.

From someone who knows and understands…

Marlon, thank you!

Marlon, thank you!

I like you already and I've never even met you.

I go to work with a 50000lb weight on my shoulders every day and the only way to get it off is to do my job right every single time.

I have people auditing me, I audit people. It's a hectic process that I MUST DO OR ELSE.

Seriously.

If I see *ANYTHING* OUT OF THE ORDINARY, I LET SOMEONE KNOW IMMEDIATELY. PERIOD. I don't care if it annoys them, I want to see these Jeeps come down right and if I can help with that, it makes me feel *GREAT*. MOST OTHER PEOPLE I KNOW feel the exact same way, as they want to KEEP THEIR JOBS which THEY LOVE.

BTW: There's much more. But nobody can catch EVERYTHING. And I don't want a WK2. Why? It's too much for me. Some of you guys are sure to like them though. Which is a good thing. Thanks for your paycheck assistance.

I dunno about coming off the line every minute but I have to do my particular job in 47.2 seconds so um.... yeah. I'd imagine that one comes off the line in a similar amount of time.
