Question about "camera" in rear view mirror

I had to have my windshield replaced on my new Overland due to a significant crack on the first day driving (within 100 miles). The windshield guy (Safelight) was not sure if the "camera's" in the rear view mirror needed to be re-calibrated. I am not even sure what they are for and would appreciate input from the experts on this board. Thanks!

Re: Question about "camera" in rear view mirror

You must mean the rain sensors on the wind shield because the camera is on the trunk door

Re: Question about "camera" in rear view mirror

Yes that camera behind the rearview mirror is for the Smartbeam headlights. The camera detects on comming cars and turns the highbeams to low, when Evic is set to auto highbeams. You should have the dealership recalibrate the camera.

Re: Question about "camera" in rear view mirror

The users manual says that if the windshield is replaced the camera needs to be re-aimed

Did they use OEM glass? I am pretty shure that glass has special properties to it... It has a special laminate within it's structure...

Re: Question about "camera" in rear view mirror

Thank you for the replies. I will take it to the dealer and have them recalibrate. Sounds like they are the smart beam detectors and they need to be readjusted.
Thanks for all of the great replies.

Re: Question about "camera" in rear view mirror

What is it with the windshield in these? I have 2 big stone chips in mine already... One not more than 5 miles from the dealer and the second the next day... The glass seems to be very soft...
