A vehicle that won't be produced for weeks can be in D1 relatively quickly. There's a number of variables in play- when the dealer submits the order, the open allocation for that dealer (if he's already burned through them), the parts availability for that particular order (if there's a shortage of a given item, it may not go to D1 quickly- if there isn't a shortage, even if it isn't in production yet, it might well be D1 in nothing flat), and that kind of thing.
The Overland I ordered was in D1 status after 6 days. It wasn't actually build for nearly two months, and vehicles ordered afterwards and in D1 later had rolled off the production line before (it looked like the V-6 was holding it up a bit). Even once built, it was a month before it was shipped (due to the September QC issues/inspections).
