Question for Potential Buyer

So my girlfriend really loves the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now the only features she wants is a Backup camera and LED DRL Headlights. That puts us at the Limited version but I don't want to pay the extra $4200 for the Luxury package only because of the LED lights. Could I just get an Altitude and buy those lights aftermarket or do they have to come on the car straight from Jeep?

I'm sure it's possible to put the LEDs in. However:
1) the unit comes with the HID lights which are worth having, and are probably most of the cost. I can't see that package from mopar being very cheap.
2) don't pay $4200 for the package. You should be paying below invoice. Compare that with the cost of fitting in the aftermarket LED/HID combo. Don't forget you also get leather and the dual pane sunroof.
3) sacrifice a day of your life and join a group buy. Search the treads; I did the DC GB for about 7% below invoice and ordered exactly what I wanted. Drove 450 miles each way in one long day. No regrets.
4) good luck and go for it

Re: Question for Potential Buyer

Just remember also that if you fit the LED's in aftermarket and you have issues like some have had with some diodes going blue, you will have no recourse at the dealer, and will be stuck footing the bill a second time. I would pay the price for the LUX package.

You get a lot more than just HIDs and backup camera from the Luxury Package. Now I am not sure where you find the info for the 2015 MY vehicles because it is not directly obvious in the thread but for the 2014 MY (identical cars) this is what it added: HID, NAVI+ Back-Up Cam, memory seats and adjustable steering wheel (useful if there is a big difference in frame size for you and your sig-other). You would find the ventilated seats very nice in the summer as well. And while it is not on the list, I think the Luxury pkg. also adds passenger side chromatic side mirror. And of course it adds premium leather and pano roof - items that I have and do not care for.

2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Limited Luxury Package (Limited)
CommandView dual-pane sunroof
Front ventilated seats with memory
High-intensity discharge, auto high beam headlights
Navigation-ready 8.4-in. Uconnect touchscreen (RA3)
Power tilt/telescoping wheel
Premium leather covered seats
Rain sensing wipers

Re: Question for Potential Buyer

Today it makes little sense to get a limited with Lux and Radio with rear camera. You come very close to an Overland in price that includes it and a bunch more stuff.

The factory LED lights are very worth having.

I think you can get an Overland for around $42K

Or even lower with group buy deals.

Re: Question for Potential Buyer

had a similar situation with my wife and I. She just wanted the blindspot, which required what you were talking about and then adding another option too if i remember correctly.....they know what you want, and make sure you pay for it.

We ended up with a laredo...... added some other things to make it look nicer, and dealt with it. or get a different vehicle.

Anyway you can link me to some of the issue threads?

For some reason I am not having any luck finding the threads....

I am in the exact situation as you except I got a white altitude and will be putting black SRT headlamps in. (Thats all I wanted , don't care about the extended sunroof and actually prefer the leather/suede look)

Thanks!

haha, that's funny. If you do figure out how to put those headlamps in, please let me know. That's exactly what I want...I don't care for panoramic sunroof and leather.

But i was just browing through the Interior/Exterior/Visual section and they were talking about all the problems or issues.

From what I have read and done research on it is definitely possible. All you need is a harness which one of the forum members on here (Jeep_addicted) makes as well as a pair of headlamps. Thats it.

Also you can probably find a pair of headlamps for a pretty good price if you are not looked for the SRT ones like me. What you would be looking for would be the headlamps off of a limited or overland 14 or 15 year. NON AFS.

For me, the Automatic Highbeam is one of the best features of the LED/HID lights. Which you won't get with Aftermarket.

Part of that Lux package includes most (if not all) of the Upgrade on the Radio that you require for the Backup Camera.
