Agree it isnt the best but you can get to without using ramps or jacks which to me is a major time saver. A trick for that filter i posted above is to use your filter wrench only enough to break the tightness and then slip one of those large plastic subway or mcdonalds cups around it and finsh unscrewing by sqeezing the cup and turning, all the leaking oil and filter drops in the cup no mess. Dump the oil in the filter and cup into the jug and toss cup and filter in trash. And the fumoto valve lets you drop the oil directly into the jug no drain pan needed. Anything to make it easy and stay away from the dealer is my goal

Re: Quick Drain Valve

I bought the fumoto valve and was going to install it last week when I did an oil change, but didn't have a washer and wasn't sure if that was necessary, would assume it is but didn't have one handy and didn't want to take the chance.

What I do with both of my present vehicles, one of which is a 1991 Mustang 5.0 LX, that a Paris runway model couldn't slide under because it sits so low, is to put 2 wheels up on the curb, and drive the other 2 up a couple of stacked up 2 X 6's nailed together. Works great, and I can slide right underneath.

I'm afraid of ramps since I saw a neighbor over drive them and crush the hell out of his rocker panels. If I'm ever in a position where the "curb and 2 X 6 method" can't be employed, I'll just go to jacks and a couple of jack stands. But with the ground clearance of the Grand Cherokee, I doubt I'll have to.

When I had one back in the 80's, the guy at the auto parts store sold me a copper washer, and told me to use it in place of the fiber one that the valve came with. He said a lot of guys were tearing them from too much torque and causing leaking problems because of it. That can't happen to a copper washer.

Re: Quick Drain Valve

While I never change my own, I must say that absolutely is a great tip for dealing with the filter!

Call me weird but I kinda like the feeling of warm oil running down my arm. Doh!
