RE: '14 Overland Spare for 20" Goodyear Fortura HL

Does anyone know if there's room in the '14 JGC Limited/Overland spare tire space for the 20" Goodyear Fortura HL that comes optional on the Limited and standard on the Overland?

Also, if there is room for the 20" tire, will the jack fit as well?

If you're wondering, I really want a matching full size spare :-)

Thanks for your help. It is much appreciated!

I'd imagine that it would fit. I have a summit with the 20 inch forturas, and it's got a full size spare and I think the jack is in there as well

Is your spare also the Goodyear Fortura or is it by another manufacturer?

Is it on a matching rim or on a black steel rim?

Again, thanks!

Re: '14 Overland Spare for 20" Goodyear Fortura HL

The Overland I test drove this weekend did not have a matching Fortera as a spare, nor did it have a matching rim. Hope that helps.

Ok, apparently my salesman had no idea what he was talking about. When he showed me and said it was a matching tire, I believed him. Wrong. It was neither a Goodyear fortera, nor was it a 20" tire. It was a kumho 245/65r/18. I don't know if they're the exact same size, but by my tape measure they appear to be. The jack was in there as well and there's some inserts on the sides that can be removed to put in a bigger tire. Hope this helps

Re: '14 Overland Spare for 20" Goodyear Fortura HL

I know the 2011-2013's with the tow package came with a full size spare. Did they change this for the 14's? It did come with a different tire and steel rim.

Re: '14 Overland Spare for 20" Goodyear Fortura HL

The salesman was sort of correct. I'm unsure of the 2014s and above, but for the 2011-2013 Overlands, the spare is considered a full size spare based on the diameter (how tall the tire stands). The spare is actually pretty close to the size of the other 4 tires hence the "full size" name.

Some Overlands have the 18" wheel and some have the 20" wheel. The full size spare tire sits on an 18" black steel wheel regardless of the wheels installed. What they mean by full size spare is that it is almost the same diameter as both tires on the 18" rims and 20" rims.

I'm not sure about the rim widths and specs though.

TIRES:

Full size spare - 245/65R18 (30.54" tall x 9.65" wide)

Overland 18" - 265/60R18 (30.52" tall x 10.43" wide)

Overland 20" - 265/50R20 - (30.43" tall x 10.43" wide)

Here's a chart I made:

Re: '14 Overland Spare for 20" Goodyear Fortura HL

Thanks for the info everyone.

Lysol, your chart is a great help. According to the specs in the chart, a 20" Goodyear Fortura HL would fit in the spare tire space per the diameter.

However, the width of the Fortura HL is abt .8 more than the full size spare. Would anyone with the full size spare be willing to place something abt an inch thick on top of the spare to see if the spare storage lid will close? As a Limited owner without the tow package, I only have the compact spare.....grrrrrr! I really can't believe that Jeep has gone this route w spare tires: My '99 Laredo came w a matching full size spare on an alloy matching wheel.

They use the 245/65/18 for a spare for vehs equipped with both the 18" and 20" wheels. The tire diameters are the same but the spare cross sectional width is about 1" narrower (than 265/65/18). That allows it to sit down in spare tire area so the cover will fit flush to the floor. The tires only "match" in diameter.

Re: '14 Overland Spare for 20" Goodyear Fortura HL

Just an FYI:

People have confirmed a 265/65R18 will fit in the spare compartment without the plastic cubbies in there. It is a tight fit, but the floor does click into position

Source - Anybody tried 265 65 R18?

HOWEVER...

275/65R18 in the spare tire area (LOL.... not so much):

Source - 265/65R18 Spare

I have a 4X4 Ltd on order and tried to order a full size spare, but the Dealer said that he tried to put that in the order configuration and could not get a availability hit. He said it may be an option that the planners in Detroit just forgot and the engineers may add this feature as a add on option in the future. Since I ordered the 20" Aluminum wheels maybe this Is the problem.
I would like to have all 5 wheels match like I had in my previous GC LTD.

Re: '14 Overland Spare for 20" Goodyear Fortura HL

Jeep doesn't provide a matching wheel for the spare, FF, regardless of what wheels you have on the four corners..just a steel wheel since it's not intended to be run under normal conditions. As noted above, the spare tire isn't identical to the regular tires, due to fit requirements under the cargo floor cover. Supplying a "regular" wheel would also raise the cost considerably. I doubt it will ever be an option as it would require re-design of the entire back-end floor of the JGC to accomodate the combined tire and wheel size and height.
