I have broken the engine in. I have 1,000 miles on it, same oil. I'm just now ready to start towing with my new 2014 JGC Limited. I have the tow package and am adding a Prodigy P2 controller today.

My plan is to hook up my boat. It weighs under 1,200 lbs. and drive nicely around (under 50 Mph) town in 30 minute spurts with 15 minutes or so between for a cool down. Maybe 50-100 miles of this. Then I was planning to hook up my travel trailer which weighs 3,200 lbs. and do the same. After a few hours of that I was planning to take it on the interstate around our city and keep the speed to 50-55 Mph and run it for a hundred plus miles worth.

I'm getting ready for a 3,000 mile round trip tow with the 3,200 lb. trailer in heat and at high elevations. The first leg of which is 350 miles and I can keep the speed down then if I need to.

I just haven't seen much on first time towing and searches aren't productive trying to find information.

Anyone see any problem with my "breakin" tow?

"Break in" on today's vehicles isn't like it used to be. I did a 1000 mile round trip on my Summit the day after I took delivery and that was on cruise control at 65 mph for nearly all of it. (All Interstate) No worries...you'll be fine.

I don't know if you need to do any of that break-in as you described. I towed within 2,500 miles on my Jeep and never had any issues. Of course I have the Hemi. My boat/trailer is around 4,000lbs, so not much heavier than yours. You mentioned you are trailering 3,000 miles in heat and high elevations. What would scare me is the way you are going to tax that V6. Though I could have towed my boat with the six, I opted for the 8 just for the reason I knew I was going to be towing great distances in the summer, possibly up some hills. In any case I don't think your extensive tow break-in is necessary, just be careful not to over do it when hauling that distance.

Just moved to dallas from detroit. Pulled a 3250lbs boat plus trailer. Pulled it fine. I know it passed the Eisenhower grade test at 6200 plus 20% during testing of the 8 speed. I do have a cel now.....but that came on this am overnight.
