Question Real world QTII Experiences

So, I've had my WJ for, well, forever. It has the Selec Trac transfer case which allows you to have the Full time 4wd, Part time 4wd, 2wd or Low 4wd options. I've always been happy with how it has performed off road and in the snow in part time 4wd and full time 4wd (where it spends most of the time in the winter).

In trying to determine if the ESLD is something I need/want, I was wondering how the performance of the new QTII transfer case is in real world situations. Is it on par (or better) with he traction capabilities of the Selec Trac in Part time 4wd (ie where the center diff is locked)? If so, it answers my question that I don't really need the ESLD.

Thanks.

Re: Real world QTII Experiences

Jeep Capabilities - 4x4 Systems explains the various systems.

The QTII transfer case performs just fine in the real world.

The rear ELSD is only available with QDII... and that requires the V8 or diesel engine. And even with that, QDII still employs the QTII transfer case.

Re: Real world QTII Experiences

If your getting the Hemi or Deisel I would spring for it. I ordered it separate from the ORII as I wanted the 20" wheels, whats 800$ when your at 50K$ LOL

I haven t had the chance to try the new Jeep in the snow yet. My WJ and Durango go great in the snow, cant beat the NV242 T-case

Re: Real world QTII Experiences

An ELSD is going to offer more traction than a standard open diff. And as many will tell you out here, the type of tire you're running is even more important.

I have QTII without the ELSD and with the OEM Forteras on my 14. I don't have any problems with traction on slippery surfaces but I also realized that it's not the same as the REAL QDII system I came from, so I had to somewhat allow for that in my driving style.

On the WK2's the only difference between QTII and QDII is that QDII adds a rear ELSD.

On the WJ, QD had front and rear Vari-Lok LSD's (gerotor) and IMO was the best 4WD system Jeep ever used.

On the WK, QDII front and rear axles became ELSD's.

On the WK2, QDII keeps the rear ELSD and uses the traction control system in place of the front ELSD.
