Question Rear Flipper Glass

From what I understand the rear "flipper glass" is no longer available. I assume it's due to the larger rear wing, but at the loss of a very handy feature. I use this all the time in my Liberty when hauling extra long items. This also comes in really handy accessing the back when hauling a trailer and there's not enough clearance to open the entire liftgate. Does anyone know if a modification is available to add the flipper glass to a 2014+ JGC?

Thanks!

Re: Rear Flipper Glass

Without the flipper glass, if I was ordering now I would be sure to get the fold flat front passenger seat.

Re: Rear Flipper Glass

You could put a 2011, 2012 or 2013 rear lift gate on in place of the 2014, that would give you the flipper glass. You would need 2011, '12, or '13 tail lights too. Not sure about the electrical wiring for how to change the tail lights.

Re: Rear Flipper Glass

There ya go. Buy the 2014 which has no rear flipper, then stop suddenly in heavy traffic, every chance you get. Once you're rear-ended, have the body shop switch the liftgate to the earlier model.

LOL

Re: Rear Flipper Glass

Curious if guys that have gone from having this to not having it have truly missed it or have easily adapted? I can think of a couple of times (bikes on rack, boat on hitch) where I'd miss the glass.

OTOH, to my eye it looks like the arc of opening this door is narrower than previous years so getting door open with boat on might be OK.

That is very inconsiderate and could cause an innocent person to get hurt.

Just back into a tree.

This is something that has been discussed many, many times over the last year and more than a half since the MY14 was first revealed to not include the flipper glass feature.

Folks who have had it on the JGC or other vehicles and actually used it would miss it. Folks who had it and either didn't use it or didn't know it existed (I'm an example of the latter as I didn't even discover it until I had my vehicle for over 6 months) don't worry about it. I've only used mine less than a dozen times, quite honestly, but I can appreciate it's value.

The bottom line, however, is that the flipper glass isn't likely coming back, at least on this platform. "Maybe" with the new platform in a few year, but the chance is probably pretty slim.

Re: Rear Flipper Glass

My garage is a tight fit if I don't park far in enough, so if I can't open my lift gate, I use the flipper glass to get my shopping out,

Re: Rear Flipper Glass

I miss it because when my canoe is mounted on the roof, I can't open the rear deck. The flipper glass on my previous vehicles allowed me to access the cargo area. Progress isn't always an improvement.
