Re: Recall for 2014 Jeeps To Fix Instrument Cluster Issues

Not to mention the varying driving habits of hundreds of thousands of individual owners that have to be taken into consideration when designing software to control these systems.

The sequence and timing may also be related to driver habits and any number of other external variables which influence the inputs...making the likelihood greater or lesser at a given time for a given vehicle.

As you can guess, this is also why such software behavior can be really difficult to nail down and find -- the incidents happening give more and more information until finally enough is there to pinpoint what bug is causing it all.

It also explains why such issues happen to begin with. Especially when you have multiple systems interacting with one another.
My guess is the fault is still in the ABS and was addressed after some build date and Jeeps that were repaired. But the Recall is a Software update to work around the ABS fault and that's why it took so long to "fix". It was cheaper to find a software work around than replace ABS units (even on an as needed basis).

Just a hunch. But that's how it is in the real world. Software folks always have to bail the other Engineers out

I would have liked to have had the factory HIDs, but didn't want to pay for the Lux II package to get them. Installed HIDs recently and love the look and function of them in the standard halogen assemblies, so I'm good on that count. Over 8K miles on my Limited with no problems and it's never been back for any warranty work.
Must be one of those luck of the draw things.
I have the pano sunroof--the missus wasn't that sold on it at first, but she's the
main user now.

No rattles, no noise, no squeaks [the roof, the missus on the other hand...]

And this is after a few trips on some of the area where "trail" is a polite term for a few cow paths and rocks. The cargo cover makes more noise.

Give em a break, they may have listened to you, but didn't have the foggiest idea how to fix it yet--and The Powers That Be said "ship it on schedule"

Loose connector my *ss.

[sorry, work in a development environment, so tend to be cranky about software quality]

Right on bro!

There are some economics involved here. If you can come up with a software workaround/hack that avoids needing to ship out tens of thousands of hardware parts, you can sometimes even get a pat on the back from management, as someone has to pay for all that hardware, and the ones being removed may or may not be at all worth anything but desk decoration.

Plus, in the software biz, there is always the little, "it never fails unless it is thursday afternoon between 1 minute after three and 2 minutes after three, and this signal happens to occur, but at the same time, someone flipped you off in traffic" type issue.
Bitch to find and fix even if you know its there.

Maybe its the ones built on Mondays after some workers are still feeling the affects of the weekend off .
We always used to call similarly afflicted computers "Friday machines"

Just be glad they aren't being built in Colorado or Washington.

"Duuuude, look at this craaaazy instrument panel, farrrrr outtttt"

I agree, no cut holes in my roof, that was the main reason I ordered mine because most that had other features I wanted had the Sunroof. Wait 5 Years and see how much you love it. I really wanted the Advanced Technology Group but refused to get it because it forced you to get Pano sunroof. No way. In hind site with all the issues on Advanced Tech Group I'm kind of glad I didn't get it.

Thanks for building them...you guys did a great job on mine.

Comes down to a companies "Bottom line" profits. Get the vehicle out on the road to bring in money. Problem can always be fixed down the line.

This has been going on for a long time in every industry (including automotive). Even the cars that blowup.
