Recall for 2014 Jeeps To Fix Instrument Cluster Issues

Looks like there is a recall for 2014 Jeeps to fix errant software causing the instrument clusters to light up or black out.

"Software glitches that randomly illuminate warning lights and cause instrument cluster blackouts are forcing Chrysler to recall 140,800 vehicles, The Detroit News reports. The automaker is recalling 132,000 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees, 91,559 of which are in the US. In addition to the Jeep recalls, Chrysler is adding 10,800 2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks to the list for similar problems.

Chrysler reportedly says, "Both events occurred infrequently and appeared to resolve themselves by tuning the vehicle's ignition off and then on."

Engineers discovered a problem with the anti-lock-braking system software that causes the instrument cluster display of the Grand Cherokee to illuminate warning lights and black out - even its ABS and electronic stability control systems are affected. To fix the Jeeps, Chrysler will update the vehicle's software.

The Ram trucks' instrument clusters have faulty digital memory that prevented the displays from activating correctly. Chrysler will perform an instrument cluster software update to fix them, and most of the trucks still are in dealership possession.

No injuries in relation to the recalls have been reported. Chrysler will provide the software updates to customers free of charge."

Just saw this in Chicago Tribune

Looks like they finally got a root cause and fix. This should make several members here happy.

Sounds like the recall that was discussed here yesterday.

I'll bet it will be posted on Jeep Garage at least a dozen times before the dealers hear about it.

Too bad all the dealers aren't reading these threads.

Has anyone seen a list of who's affected based on build date or is it all 14's? Mine was built on March 13, 2013.

Totally ****ing typical! Thrilled I got rid of that 2014 Overland since I fell victim to this BS early on and therefore, bought an X5 instead!! Happy to report, ZERO PROBLEMS!

HOWEVER! All that said, I still love the WK2 and want another one once they work out these bugs!!! hehe

Ha! maybe, maybe not! Point is, my X5's gone 30,000 miles without a hitch where that stupid Overland went 1300 before it had to be towed, TWICE!! #Bitter!

Don't see anything on wk2 jeeps yet with a TSB/Recall.
Mine built May '13, but has hit the odd blanking issue twice but not for a few K miles.

Still if someone has the TSB/Recall number, when it finally goes in for a reasonably stable Uconnect upgrade, may as well have this done as well.

I've got almost 6k miles with no problems so far, aside from my leaky sunroof...

That old body style X5 has been around since the 2007 model year. I would hope they got most of the bugs out of it by the 2013 model year.

Re: Recall for 2014 Jeeps To Fix Instrument Cluster Issues

I bought a 2012 so it seems okay so far. I'm crossing my fingers that the 2014 WK2 software update fixes the problem. Quite frankly, it is a beautiful vehicle. I would have kept mine if it weren't for the fact is was breaking down every five minutes.
