Reciver insert

Hello all... Let me introduce myself. Name is Erik and I am about two weeks away from pulling the trigger on either a 14' or 15' Overland 3.6l in Granite. My wife and I come from years of German engineering, and the only full size SUV we though handled like the Germans......other than the Germans, was the Jeep. Dealer says that was one of the last contributing factors from the Daimler Chrysler relationship as the Grand Cherokee is built off the ML platform? Not sure if that's true. Anyway I have been lurking for about two months taking in this great forum, and just had one question that I have been tirelessly searching for. I of course love almost everything about the new Wk2 (except that it doesn't come with saddle interior anymore.) but is there a receiver insert that can be put in the tow hitch to cover the plugs, and that area. I just feel like it is just an eye sore if your not actively using the tow package.

Thoughts????

Re: Reciver insert

Yes, it's true that the current JGC platform was derived from the Merc ML platform.

Relative to your question, the Summit comes with the cover over the hitch receiver and towing electrical as standard. AFAIK, it's not available on other trim platforms that have the factory tow installed...the Summit has a completely different rear (and front) fascia, so a retrofit would be not so much fun and pricy. You could have a body shop spray that area with body color to help it "disappear" a little more, but honestly, it's not so bad looking as it is, especially since it's well integrated and doesn't hang down. You can also cover it with a step inserted into the receiver or bling it up with a memento of your favorite sports team or something...

Just took delivery of a 2015 GC Limited, came with a black rubber receiver plug with JEEP logo on it.

Re: Reciver insert

OP is asking about a cover for the whole hitch receiver area, not just the Jeep logo plug that comes standard. He wants the whole hitch stuff to "disappear"...

Re: Reciver insert

Yea I want something to cover the whole area.... Kinda like an Escalade has. I do kinda like the idea of a step insert like Jim has said. Just don't want to "bling" it up. Maybe something a foot long and have it powder coated body color. Thanks for the help all!!
