Recommend a Floor Jack, Ramps, and Jack Stands for Me and my WK2

I'm starting to do my own maintenance and need to upgrade my gear. The GVWR for my 2016 JGC is 6,500 lbs, based on a search. My current 2-ton floor jack and ramps aren't strong enough. Yes I have used them but I don't feel comfortable using them regularly now that I have this much heavier rig, they seem a bit on the flimsy side. I figure I need 4-ton capacity gear.

Floor Jack: What floor jack can you recommend? Floor jacks can be heavy, and I recall a friend once had a very nice one that was strong but also (relatively) light in weight, and with nice build quality. I would like that, but I don't remember what it was and my google-fu isn't finding one. Can you help?

Ramps: As for ramps, my old and small ramps need upgrading. They have served me well for over 30 years but I got those when I had a cute 2-seater Italian sports car (a Fiat, BTW!). Can you recommend a good set of strong ramps?

Jack Stands: And while I'm at it, what about 4-ton jack stands? If you can recommend a set that'd be great, but I figure jack stands are jack stands, as long as they are strong enough. True, or no?

I am willing to invest in good quality equipment. The DIY cost savings will eventually pay for this gear. So while money is always a consideration, this will be a long-term investment for my rig which I plan to keep for many years and hopefully 500,000+ miles.

Oh and I have to find how to disable the QL suspension. I figure those instructions are out on wk2jeeps.com but if someone can point me to that it'd be appreciated.

I have searched here on JG but while these threads have some good suggestions, I'm looking for your good ideas:

Floor Jack Lift Points
Lifting WK2 with Floor jack
Floor Jack
Floor Jack and stands

Thanks!

I use a Craftsman SUV jack, but add a hockey puck in the cup of the jack to protect the Jeep. Also used a Dremel on the puck to cut a slot on one side. Probably overkill.

Harbor Freight has an SUV jack as well, unk of quality.

Stands, have two sets, one of the stamped variety and the other of the cast variety that came as a special from Craftsman with a floor creeper and the 4 stands.

As for the jack points, they are marked on the side of the vehicle with a little triangle with a dot in it--download the owners manual or order a print copy or both for the location. I used a gold paint pen from a hobby shop to make lines UNDER the vehicle at the jack points. I tend to put the jack stand at the jacking point and the jack itself near them if I plan to leave it up in the air long or just for safety.

As for killing the air suspension, search for "jack mode" as it is just a setting on the uconnect screen.

If you are really serious, look around for the electric/hydraulic or air/hydraulic lifts.
The 12 volt ones all seem to be a royal piece of crap, but if you find a good 120VAC powered one, would appreciate an update. Or even compressed air/hydraulic.

I'd suggest an impact wrench. The Milwaukee electric one can easily break loose wheel lugnuts, but the air powered ones and an inexpensive compressor is probably a better investment in the long run.

And a handful of LED lights, preferably with both hooks and magnets.

The FSM might be a good investment as well---on a prior jeep I typically used it to determine if I would tackle that repair or head for a friendly helpful shop.

I'm using Race Ramps when I do chassis or skid plate work. Spendy, but worth it for the safety and convenience. Lots of models, but I chose RR-XT-2 (67 inch XT 2 piece) and purchased on Amazon.

Don't forget wheel chocks. Race Ramps RR-WC-2 wheel chock set of 2, also on Amazon.

I second this! I have two sets of Race Ramps, those quoted above for most work and a smaller 1 piece version for simple / quick jobs.

Yes they are pricey but IMO, worth EVERY penny. Being able to separate out the 2-piece versions has been a life saver quite a few times!

Oh and they are light enough by 9 year old can pick them up and bring them to me!

Without running out to look I imagine they're trying to use it to further support the pinch weld seam.

These are great for lifting at the pinch weld seam without any scratching or frame damage;

I've got a set of ramps from Autizone that work great. Each can hold 4k or so, or maybe more. Used them to install the rock rails among other things. No issue what so ever.

Exactly. Keeps it from trying to cut the hockey puck.
There are probably easier solutions..

Re: Recommend a Floor Jack, Ramps, and Jack Stands for Me and my WK2

Your Jeep weighs around 5000 lbs, don't use GVWR.

You're also not lifting the entire jeep at once. You'll probably only put less than 1 ton on your Jack. Not a good idea to even do half the jeep at once as there is no jack point to do so. That I know of.

You're 2 Ton Jack is PLENTY !!

P.S. Of course all 2 Tons Jacks are not equal.

And if you go larger than 2 tons, you'll probably regret it because they will be heavier and bulkier than you want.

I actually prefer a pretty small light duty jack to get in close enough to get under the lower control arm if I'm doing tires or brakes. I rather lift the tire off an inch than the body up a foot. My large 2 ton won't fit (has 4 large outer wheels). My tiny 2 ton fits in perfect (has a single center wheel on the lift end).

Do you know how big a (properly rated) 4-ton Jack would be !!

Recommend a Floor Jack, Ramps, and Jack Stands for Me and my WK2

I have a 2.5 ton strong arm jack (with urethane pad) and a set of 6ton jack stands from harbor freight (with protective caps).

Also a 1.5 ton craftsman suitcase trolley jack that i use for suspension work or on my wife's car.
