Recommended engine oil for 3.6L?

Hi all just curious I have a family member with a 2013 wk2 grand cherokee with the 3.6L hes wondering what the recommended oil and filter everyone is using that he can purchase himself from now on rather than having the stealer do it.

Thank you

Re: Recommended engine oil for 3.6L?

From the owners manual.

Engine Oil Viscosity – 3.6L Engine
SAE 5W-30 engine oil is recommended for all operating
temperatures. This engine oil improves low temperature
starting and vehicle fuel economy.

I'll be using OEM filter with MObile 1 synthetic 5W - 30
A lot of guys use Amsoil.

Re: Recommended engine oil for 3.6L?

Any 5w30 oil which meets Chrysler's spec (Mobil1 doesn't BTW), and a Wix/Napa Gold filter for me.

I am actually running Mobil1 now (Costco sale), but plan to use Pennzoil Platinum in the future. Chrysler seems to be in bed with Pennzoil at the moment, and it is a great oil.

Exxon/Mobil is working on that...they just haven't paid off the right person at Chrysler yet.

Strange that mobil 1 doesn't meet the spec for the 3.6L, I was told by the srt hotline as well as the question was answered by srt chat engineers that mobil 1 can be used for our 6.4's which is what I put in mine.

I run 5W-30 during the spring/summer months and 0W-30 in the fall/winter months. Both full synthetics.

It's not necessarily that it doesn't MEET the spec...it just hasn't gone through the process to be verified as such.

Pretty sure the oil filler cap on ours is labeled 5W-20.

Re: Recommended engine oil for 3.6L?

Greetings,

I just hit the 40k mark on my 2011. Since I got it, I have been using the oil that Dealer has given me, which they say is a 50/50 blend. Does it pay at this stage to switch over to full synthetic?

Thanx in advance.

Best for now.

Re: Recommended engine oil for 3.6L?

1stJeep, there is always a benefit. 40k is a young engine by modern standards

It's Amsoil for me. With 2 cars, a Jeep and 3 motorcycles I like having it show up at my door instead of going to the stores. It meets MS-6395 and the XL is comparable in price to the Penzoil (which is a good oil indeed).
I'd pony up for the Signature Series if the GC wasn't still under warranty but I have to change it at 6 months/ 8000 miles anyway so it would be a waste.

FWIW, Mobil does have a MS-6395 oil..... at >$10/ quart!

Re: Recommended engine oil for 3.6L?

Think it is just a few Mobil 1 versions that do not meet the specs. Mobil 1™ ESP Formula 5W-30 should be fine.

13wk2 is on a distinguished road
I have a 13 v6 and I use castrol full synthetic and Napa gold filters. I now have 20,000 miles and going strong. Granted I know its a waste but I change mine at 3500-4000 miles.
