Red and other colors now curtailed

According to the Wall Street Journal, some Chrysler colors are being restricted because of the lack of Xirallic, a paint pigment glistener. It is made at only one Merck plant in Onahama, Japan, which was put out of commission by the recent earthquake.

"On Friday, Chrysler told dealers it is limiting orders for vehicles in 10 different colors that use the Merck's Xirallic pigment, a company spokesman said."

Ford is doing the same thing with red and black, to some degree.

Re: Red and other colors now curtailed

Oh, maybe that explains why the red one I ordered was taking so long and why the color name changed on the logistics page.

I gave up on the red wait and picked up a black summit off the lot tonight

Re: Red and other colors now curtailed

Chrysler told dealers it was restricting orders on vehicles in 10 colors, including two variations of black and three of red.

Chrysler spokeswoman Katie Hepler called it a "precautionary measure" and said the company did not expect any effect on production at this time.

"We anticipate that we currently have an adequate ... supply to meet existing customer orders," Hepler said in a statement.

She said other colors being restricted were Bronze Star, Rugged Brown, Hunter Green, Ivory, and Billet Silver.

Re: Red and other colors now curtailed

Interesting that it includes so many other colors. The initial reports just had reds and blacks as the restricted colors.
