When I refused the delivery of this vehicle, the dealership cut a check which was the difference between what they gave me for my trade in minus the payoff amount of the loan (I was not "upside down", i.e., owed more than the value of the vehicle). I did not provide a down payment, but the dealership held the funds of my trade in, which they had sold off, for the duration of the build process. In Pennsylvania, the trade in value is non-taxable, that is, the sales tax is only paid on the difference between the new vehicle's sale price and the trade in value.

The dealership asked that I pay them $500 for refusing the vehicle. I begrudgingly did. I don't believe there was any legal obligation to do so, however. Ultimately, this means I paid the dealership $500 and no longer have any tax savings when I purchase my next vehicle. At a sales tax of 6%, that would mean, for example, $3,000 in taxes on a $50,000 purchase, which is not insignificant. Faced with the prospect of taking a vehicle I would likely try to sell shortly thereafter, I felt this was still preferable to the potential monetary loss due to vehicle depreciation.

Ultimately, refusing this vehicle caused me to lose money. Had I not done any early trade in, which the dealership suggested I do, this process would have been less complicated. Until you sign the paperwork taking possession of the vehicle you do not own the vehicle. At that point, any issues you have with the vehicle are your problem.

As a buyer, you have the right to refuse the delivery of a vehicle for any reason. I rejected the vehicle due to poor build quality.
You're overstating your tax damage here, it's based on the value of the trade in, i.e., 6% of 27,000. That being said my new Jeep was totaled and for many reasons I have not reordered one of them being the driver's door didn't fit worth s**t and when they fixed it it didn't close worth S**T!

You did exactly what more Jeep owners should do. Maybe then Jeep would straighten it's act up! Not only on the Factory level but the Dealer level as well.

Re: Rejected Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Delivery

You did the right think - if you do not like it, do not take it home.
Just do not make second mistake and do your home work before you trade your other car. If you think that for $55K you can get new and loaded with same options like Summit BMW you are wrong. And yes, $55K buys you a German, but German Chevy Malibu. Sure, it's a BMW. But it's the entry level car. Just do a Google search and you will see a lot of complains for misaligned body parts. It happens also in the $70K M models (Adjust hood alignment). I am huge BMW fan, but went with Overland and I am very happy with my choice. I was also considering 535xi, but this (Consolidated List of all F10 problems and Solutions/Discussions - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums) has made me think twice. Do not rush it this time. Every car brand has problems. Most important is which one you can leave with.

Re: Rejected Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Delivery

outrage, 2 questions, and 1 request..

1. What car did you trade in?
2. How was its fit and finish?

Request, Keep this thread updated with what vehicle you end up going with and how it is built in comparison (not only fit and finish but also reliability)

Re: Rejected Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Delivery

Why do I get the feeling that there is more to this story? I mean I find it very hard to believe that someone with these high standards would not have looked at Grand Cherokee's before ordering. He talks about how poor the fit and finish is on many of the Grand Cherokee's on the lot, but yet it's not noticed until the ordered vehicle comes in? From someone as picky as this? I would think that someone with these standards would have gone on test drives and looked over every square inch of these jeeps before ordering and putting a deposit down. What is it that we are missing from this story?

Good point. I can't imagine why he ordered a JGC in the first place.

Re: Rejected Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Delivery

I think he was presuming that after a little over a year in production, Jeep would have gotten some of bugs out of the 14 model. I thought so as well. I was trading my 14 Limited in on a 14 Summit. Looked all around the Atlanta area for the latest build I could find. I couldn't find one that didn't have some of the same issues the plagued my February build. Not only with body fitment but issues like the transmission jerk or Uconnect issues. So I almost order one but decided it would have have been a mistake.
Granted you can find these issues in other brands but I don't know of one that you would be finding the same issues a year into their build. If there was an issue most Premium Brands in the price range of Grand Cherokee would offer you a loaner while in the shop.

Re: Rejected Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Delivery

maybe jeep pays less time on silly measurements and MORE time on the important stuff... Ever think of that?

I'm getting out my micrometer and if the panels aren't just so, I'm bringing my 2012 with no issues to date so far back for a full refund!!! This thread has openned my eyes!

Lexbenzuraudi here I come!!!!

You ordered a pig with lipstick and complained about the smell. I like the smell...
