"This Price Range"?!?

The 2014 JGC Summit edition can run over $50,000 or even $60,000 (MSRP)! At what "price range" should a person be able to expect good Quality Control & Attention to Detail?!?

Totally agree!

I don't believe this is true either. With the 20" rims and other aesthetics they've move away from the utility to capture a wider market, going after BMW/LR buyers so to this lack of attention on outside trim/body does not hold up.

I would not expect a fully hand inspected/visually perfect vehicle from any mass produced vehicle. Every single vehicle will have it's issues....minor and/or major.

I would expect PERFECT build quality from a hand-built Bently or any exotic. Not a Jeep, Audi, Lexus, Ford, Range Rover, Mercedes, Ect...

For what you get in a Jeep Overland or Summit off-road capability and technology-wise, it is not an elite/expensive vehicle.

My Overland is perfect for what it is...a very comfortable, very well appointed, very capable off road vehicle.

I think 'Perfection' and 'Good Build Quality' are two totally different things. I don't think most realize perfection is not going to happen. Good Build Quality should be a certainly at the price point of a Summit.

Lexus's tagline states it well. "The relentless Pursuit of Perfection" They haven't acheived Perfection, they are pursuing it.

I agree, but sounds like OP was looking for perfection.

I had my Lexus for 6 years before i got my Jeep...and you're right...they have some work to do. It was about on par with my Overland.

To me anyway...some misaligned window trim and a tweaked body panel is still good build quality for a mass produced vehicle.

Re: Rejected Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Delivery

I have been following this thread since the beginning. There are a lot of good and varied opinions expressed through the thread. IMHO, I expect a reasonably high level of quality, but not perfect. I have taken delivery of two new ordered vehicle recently and ended up having simple issues with both. Dealer took care of both quite well. My issues, the Cherokee came and during my inspection I noticed the rear passenger quarter panel, next to tailgate, was sticking out significantly and did not match other side or other Cherokee's. I told dealer I would not accept it and went home. An hour later dealer called and told me it had been repaired and described what the issue was. Went back, performed further review, and signed the papers. No issues since. My GC took 14 weeks to deliver and had 46 miles on it when I went to pick it up. I took my time and reviewed the whole GC and could not find an issue. Took delivery, drove home (8 Miles) without incident. Next morning started driving to work and the check engine light came on with the message to service the DEF system. Returned home, parked the GC and took the car to work. Emailed General Manager at 6:30am and received reply at 7:30am. The dealer came to house, picked up GC and left 2013 for loaner. Dealer found and repaired the pinched DEF line. No further issues. Jeeps score (my private rating system) is negative, while the dealers is positive even though they took a big hit by not discovering and fixing the Cherokee issue prior to delivery.

I have, what I think, are reasonable expectations. Both vehicles had easily repairable issues that the dealer took care of quickly. The fit and finish, other than the noted issue, is very good. I have washed each a couple times and would have noticed other issues.

The OP may have very high expectations and if those are not met than the outcome is much different than expectations more in line with the purchase. The GC, no matter what model, is a mass produced vehicle and not subject to the same quality as a hand made high end vehicle. Not to say that a reasonable level of quality should not be expected, key word being reasonable.

Additionally, I feel like I am not getting the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth in the description of the quality issues. I believe there were some issues but to what level, which is subjective. Earlier in the thread, I asked if there were photos so we could all make our own judgements. The OP did not have photos which makes individual judgements unavailable.

I hope the OP finds what he is looking for in a vehicle. Although my experience has not been perfect, I do not find the quality unacceptable by any means. I also have a dealer who has made the quality issues not a problem.

Jeep CFarer -

Very nice post. Having an issue with a new vehicle is never fun, but I give a new vehicle a pass on one "issue/service". I have had new vehicles with no issues at all and that is what I expect but won't get angry with one issue.

The fit and finish of my 2014 is great. I've looked it over close and from a distance. All lines up inside and out. Solid, drives smooth and very happy. Just waiting for my "one issue" to get fixed and I'll be on the road again!

When you set a new destination make sure the "Fastest", *not* "Shortest", route option is selected.

It's the highest priced non-luxury brand SUV in it's mid-size SUV segment.

Re: Rejected Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Delivery

I have this thought that in a paradoxical way, it was the chrome trim that was not fully on the edges of the body panels that was the issue for the OP, and if it was without that it would be fine... So going for supreme upgrades may have causes this issue. I know the chrome on my overland is not well aligned. But to me it's an afterthought. My previous joking post shows my opinion, but really, I wonder if it is just the added on overpriced chrome bits... A catch 22 of sorts..

I would bet that car had doors that closed perfectly..

As for 20 inch wheels not being "SUV", I beg to differ. I love mine. Many trucks have them now. And when I go off road or in deep snow, which I do, I don't care if they get scuffed. The on road ride and steering sharpness is excellent. I've got Terra Grapplers on the 20's as even more of a compromise... It's a reasonable compromise for all possible conditions (and mostly for me that's on road), which, to me, is what an SUV is.

Re: Rejected Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Delivery

My question to the OP is if he even asked the dealer to fix any of these issues he states or just said "I'm out!"?
