Correct.

The dealer's job is to make money and your job is to save money. They pull that on 100 people and a certain percentage will write the check it's that simple.

I was in a Ford dealer the other day (looking at the Fusion for a high MPG 3rd car) and I was pushing some numbers around and he was close so I asked if he could find the car with certain equipment at another dealership since he didn't have it. Unfortunately we can't do that without a deposit was his response. So you want me to put a deposit on a car that doesn't exist was my retort. His response was I'm not going to tell another dealer to hold a car without a deposit. So my response don't hold the car I want to know if it exists before I give you a deposit. At the point I walked out, he lost a sale. When I bought my JGC I had 4 dealers searching for a jeep, giving me VINs without any hassle and without a deposit. Most dealers I find underestimate the car buyer.

Agree, that would be my approach.
See if they would correct it first.
I've noticed this with the Durango too..at least I've seen several on lots where the hood is not aligned properly. Easy to see.
Makes me wonder with the factory running full tilt, maybe one of the shifts does not have the same QC as the others? How else can there be ones with no alignment issues and others with?

I've seen the hood alignment thing too on GC's .... driver's side lower than passenger's side. Mine was like that too, but all you have to do is adjust the two hood bumpers that screw up and down. Took me just a couple minutes of opening, adjusting, closing and repeat until just right. No biggie....a dealer prep thing I suppose.

Re: Rejected Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Delivery

I didn't go to the other threads showing the OP issues he encountered but I must say I must of had my beer goggles on when I picked up my August build 2014 JGC because otherwise I may have walked away on the deal -

1) Misaligned passenger front fender that caused the door to rub when opening/closing (I didn't open the door fully when going over the vehicle so missed this) Dealer body shop fixed but I am keeping an eye where it rubbed.
2) Door sill misaligned on front passenger side. Dealer body shop fixed.
3) Paint scratches and odd finish on hood. Dealer body shop fixed without repaint.
4) Hood lower on driver side. Dealer Body shop fixed.
5) Rear tailgate misaligned, it's better after the dealership worked on it but not what one would call aligned but so far no issues with it.

I also noticed rear drivers door was out more than it should be (dealer fixed) and the rear spoiler sits noticeable lower than roof, dealer has been asked to check this on next visit. I still like my Jeep a lot and the dealer has done well to make things right so far but I feel any new vehicle built today should come with a lot less imperfections than I encountered. Heck one JGC on the lot the rear taillight had fallen off and was hanging by the connectors. I don't expect perfection but with today's assembly tech these things should have far less assembly issues than some of us have seen.

The OP decided not to chance it which seems to me the best bet, I am not sure even if the dealership would of fixed everything that OP would have been satisfied and may have wondered "what else is wrong that I haven't noticed". Regardless if someone is paying 30k or 55k for a new JGC I would say it should be built well with few to no issues upon delivery and if there are issues then a buyer should weigh the option to let the dealership correct those issues or that it may be best to walk away from the deal.

I spent a load of time researching other vehicles before I decided on my Summit. I compared it to almost EVERY vehicle in its price range. In my opinion, I got the most value out of the Jeep. I love my Jeep. Yes, I have had some stupid issues already, but this thing is a beast. None of the other vehicles could compare.

Vehicles I test drove and spent hours researching before I decided on my Summit:

Ford Explorer Sport
Lexus RX 350 F Sport
Lexus GX460
Mercedes ML 350
BMW X5
Infiniti QX60 and QX70
Audi Q5 Sport and Q7
Volkswagen Touareg
Volvo XC60
Acura MDX
Cadillac SRX

None of these vehicles had what I was looking for. The closest thing to it was the BMW X5 but I would have spent close to $80,000 for the options I wanted.

Every car manufacturer has its issues. Jeep is not the only one. Yes, I am not very happy with some of the very stupid quality control issues I have read about and experienced myself, but it's still a damn good vehicle with some great luxury, some great speed, and a set of balls that will help me drive through anything that will come my way.

OK I made a mistake, I was under that impression.

I will then say, Jeep WK2 is made on same platform as M class.

I will also contend that why can we not expect the same quality.

Bear in mind, I own a 2011 and am quite happy with it, not all are.

Re: Rejected Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Delivery

I have a 2012 Altitude, and i love it. I have taken it back a few times now for cosmetic things such as the chrome drip trim on the passenger front window uneven, they took it off and found the part was busted in transpo. The chrome trim in the cupholders was peeling i asked for a fix they did no questions asked. Sunroof made a clicking noise when driving they looked into it and found that one of the bolts had sheered before delivery and replaced it.

So far any time i have had a concern cosmetically they have been prompt and fixed it immediately. My father owns a s550, let me tell you great car, but it has had almost as many cosmetic returns. Our zr1 has had more cosmetic returns as has our slk550. if every part is held to a less than 1 percent failure rate and every car has 10000 parts, it is pretty understandable that a small number of parts on every car may be slightly miss balanced, or have structural weakness, or be defective.

Because the JNAP assembly line runs significantly faster than the elves in the Black Forest will work given the EU's labor policies!

Also there is the whole "significant price difference thingy" of which
A portion supports more quality inspection/do over time than Jeep does!
