How about hanging your keys high enough so the kids can't get to them?

Re: Remote Start can kill?

In 15 minutes your dead!

Please keep the keys up away from children and in a safe/secure location.

At 1.3% (12,800ppm) your unconscious in 3 breaths, 3 minutes your dead! Even if you remove someone from the area the red blood cells in their body cannot remove the CO2 fast enough to receive the fresh O2 and will still die without direct medical intervention, even then it's a gamble.

I have seen people die from this exact exposure!

Please be safe.

Yeah...don't let your kids play with your keys like you wouldn't let them play with your knife or your gun...

Sheesh

Besides, we don't even know exactly what happened, and may not ever know. Perhaps the "remote start" button was accidentally pressed? Perhaps it wasn't accidentally pressed and they intended to go out to the car right away, but then they got distracted by something else (such as a phone call) or just decided they no longer wanted to go out but forgot they remotely started the car? Or maybe the woman usually leaves the garage door open, but the boyfriend decided to shut it that day for whatever reason, and the woman remote-started the car to warm it up, not realizing the boyfriend shut the garage door? Who knows.

Keep in mind too, that the woman who died was a mother, sister, and a friend. Same goes for the boyfriend, who in addition to being a brother and a friend was also probably a father. I think they both deserve a little more respect, especially given the fact that nobody even knows for sure exactly what happened.

None of which you stated negates the fact that my statement holds true. Remote starts have to make some type of noise before starting for a reason.

This is all 100% true, and I would feel the same way if the families and the press were looking at the story as a "tragic accident".

But...they don't. That story is not about a tragic accident, its about a car manufacturer that put a feature on their cars that "killed" those people. They vilify the car manufacturer as designing something that is reckless and "killing people" and it comes back and bites all of us in the ass because easy to use features on products somehow we can figure out how to use safely are either removed, or restricted in such a way that it makes them much less useful.

People need to realize that life is inherently dangerous...and sometimes people do stupid sh!t with their property that gets them killed. It doesn't mean their property killed them...they killed themselves by misusing their property. Its like someone who uses their gas oven to heat their house, or runs a gas generator inside, or shot their wife by accident with a gun. Is the generator dangerous? Is the oven dangerous? Is the gun dangerous? Not if they are used properly.

Re: Remote Start can kill?

I think you mean CO, not CO2. CO more securely binds in the hemoglobin than oxygen hence displacing oxygen and preventing oxygen from being delivered effectively throughout the body. A splitting headache is a first sign (although not everyone gets that symptom).

My point is to just be careful, the 15 minute shutoff in the WK2 is a great safety feature and should prevent anyone from dying from CO. Unfortunately not all vehicles have the shut off.
