Re: Rented 2011 from Alamo
I was in Baltimore this week for work and was happily surprised to see a JGC available in the national rental lot and quickly picked it up. I am waiting on an overland hemi delivery mid-Nov, so this was a great opportunity to take one out for a couple days and get a good feel for it. When I picked it up, it had 3 miles on it and 1 hour of engine time!
Here are my impressions after three days and please be mindful that I currently drive a car, so my impressions are relative to that:
-base model looks great both exterior and interior for $30K, but I am glad I went with the overland for the extras that come with the interior styling
-she's got sort of a wide a$$. I didn't pick up on this during my couple of test drives, but after parking it in and out of parking spots all day long (traveling sales guy) I realized how wide she is. Not hummer wide, but i will have to get used to the jump from car to SUV
-If I got in a head on collision, I don't know if this thing would get a scratch on it! The weight of it just makes it feel rock solid, which can also be viewed another way to say it wasn't as nimble or quick as maybe I would have liked. I'm glad i went with the hemi b/c i think it will be a little faster to respond in passing situations and off the line which for me is something I thought was worth paying for.
-In mostly city / suburb driving I was averaging like 12 mpg. When I finally put in some highway time, it quickly jumped to 16-17 overall. Just filled up once.
-I really love the exterior look from the front, and the back end does somewhat resemble an x5. It just looked impressive next to all the other cars I was parked next to. Stands tall and looks grand.
-My biggest disappointment was....I saw like 15 other JGCs!! When I pulled up to my hotel, there were three others in the damn parking lot. And when I returned it, I counted 7 being returned at the same time!!! Obviously these were all laredos, but I was hoping to be the lone JGC for a while in my neighborhood, so if you live in Baltimore you are now overrun by the rental car fleet!! And of course as soon as I did get back to my hometown, I see an overland (saw the wooden steering wheel from almost a mile away!) coming towards me as I'm about to pull into my development. I guess the only thing I have left to stand out is color - went with mineral gray and that will still be a surprise when it finally arrives!
